Sorry Brian, I just had to mess with you after that other post

Stock 99-00s max out at 14 degrees total at 5k rpms.

Stock 01-03s max out at 11 degrees total at 5k rpms.

Keep in mind there are many other tables and functions in the calibration that also affect timing, so it can be higher or lower than that based on other variables. Example is the PCM adding timing when it gets colder.

Hope this helps.

I've built several blown and turboed engines, but they've all been Chevy's. The last engine I had was a centrifugally supercharged 540 that used 26 degrees total timing with 15 psi of boost, no intercooler, and 91 octane pump gas. And that was a safe tune! I'm guessing the Ford head design just requires a lot less timing. There were a couple of late model Mustangs with centrifugals that had to be cut back to 20-22 degrees of timing to avoid detonation, which really cut into their power.

It just really caught my eye seeing that low amount of timing. You do that to a standard small block Chevy and you'll absolutely kill the power.

Thanks guys. Just a hot rodder myself. Most of my experience has been with Chevy's but I love anything that can be modded. Already got a pulley, 4-way chip, thermostat, cold air package, front springs and rear shackles on the way and I don't have the truck yet!

This has been a great source of info for me on the Lightnings and appreciate the help I've received from you guys. I've been spending a lot of my spare time reading older posts and trying to sort out what mods I want and/or need. I was shocked with the timing specs of these trucks and obviously have a lot to learn.

Thanks again.

Jody

Hey Sal

Why do the 01-03s have less timing than the 99-00?.
