When I had problems starting they were 10 times more frequent with Chevron than with Union 76. I don't know why that was the case, but that was weird enough to prompt me to stop using Chevron in my truck that I used exclusively prior to that.

The filter problem isn't necessarily debris plugging them up. The filter media seems to be hardening and not allowing fuel to pass through.

True. Anything that causes restricted fuel flow will affect vehicle. That's why I decided, after this experience, that fuel pressure gauge is a must.

Cool

NateTrun2,

I've used the Autozone filter both times that I have changed mine. It works just fine. Some things I will use from Autozone and some things I won't. This is one to use.

If I remember correctly manual says FG986B. I might be wrong (memory has been failing me recently), so doublecheck in your manual.

I have always usually used EXXON. Never once had a problem with the fuel and get about the same or more MPG as the rest.

Hapynzap,

Sorry I took so long on the reply, Internet was out at work all day yesterday.(oops did I say work and internet in the same sentence??)

$11 (Motorcraft) and some change at my local Standard Auto parts....Probably could have gotten it cheaper elswhere, But I knew they would have a good disconnect tool, as they have a good selection of tools.

I got the metal KD disconnect tool for $12

Jake: If the filter doesn't clear up the rough idle, then you might want to check the following:

1. Spark plugs faulty or not gapped properly.
2. Wet or faulty coil(s).
3. Sticky or faulty emissions systems(?).
4. Vacuum leaks at intake maniflod or hoses.
