Torque converter drain plug
Torque converter drain plug
Wish my truck had one! I have the rubber plug at the bottom but no drain plug is provided to facilitate draining the TC. My understanding is some trucks have it and some don't? I have an early 02. Guess i'll have to go to a dealer, etc to get it done (special machine that sucks the fluid out)
I am certain that all of the stock converters have drain plugs in them. The manual even gives it a part number I believe. Sometimes it is tricky lining up the drain plug with the hole where the rubber boot is. With the aftermarket converters, some have drain plugs, and some don't.
Nope, my 2002 doesn't have one but has the rubber boot for looks i guess! Two of us cycled everything a couple of times to ensure we weren't missing it...My P.I. aftermarket doesn't have one either.

Just had my Trans/Torgue Convert drained and refilled using the T-Tech machine at our local SpeedLube here in Millington TN. Any lube place worth it salt should have one.
The T-Tech machine is the same as the Ford dealers use. The machine is hooked to the cooler lines beteen the trany and radiator. They then start the engine. As the old fluid is pumped into the machine by the transmission, new fluid (on the other side of a diaphram) is pushed back into the return line to the transmission. Interesting to watch. Took them longer to hook up the machine than it did to replace the fluid. Cost was $79, but since I had it done at the same time as my oil service, they knocked $10 off.
I have the drain plug, but why fart with it when this is so much easier, and you don't have to run the transmission with the pumps dry waiting for them to prime after you have drained the transmission and torque converter.

2006 Rubber Plug Leak Transmission
I have a 2006 F150 automatic transmission 5.4L 4X4.
There is a leak coming from the rubber plug below the transmission. I believe the torque converter is located there. Does anyone know what this is. Also should this compartment of the transmission be filled with fluid? I was told that the seal that's leaking is from the transmission into the area of the torque converter.
What I'm tring to figure out is if the rubber plug is bad, or if there is a gasket that separates these two parts of the transmission and if that's bad?
I took pictures of it but I spend about 45 minutes trying to figure out how to get them on this site but failed. I can email them though.
Thanks.

Is it engine oil or trans fluid? Could be your rear main seal on your engine or maybe your front seal on your transmission. I think you have the 4r70w and I doubt it has a drain plug in the converter.
