Can I change the color of stock gauge lights?

I would like to make my lights on the dash gauges, window buttons, and ac ***** glow a soft blue to match my Alpine lights and my autometer gauges. Is this possible? Please help. Thanks in advance.

Im sure if you could find the little bulb's in there, and just solder a blue LED in it would work... but is it really worth all that trouble?
Or if you can find the bulb's themselves, maybe using a marker on them or something?

Well you could change the color of the Climate control and door switches. However, the color of the dash lights cannot be altered. These are electroluminescent with an inverter. The only way the color can be changed is with a new set of guage faces with indiglo. There are a few companies out there that can make you a pair if you really want em. Goto google and do a search for electroluminescent or indiglo gauges.

Id be interested in seeing if I can just grab the power supply off the aftermarket ones that change from green/blue by changing the frequency. Not sure if it would work but i would venture to say it would since its the same material as most hte aftermarkets.
Just and idea though, If you have a spare to tinker with ya might try it, worse case you will burn up the film and have to replace it =)

Actually, the inverter doesnt change the color... The film already has a certain color. I tried this using backlit lcd displays that has el strips to luminate the lcd unit.

CLone,

Your right to a point, that perticular color of EL on the lcd you were using is a yellow green one, the ones in our trucks are the green/blue element. By adjusting the frequency and voltage i am pretty sure we could change the color, the exact color we could go to is unknown, but if someone wants to lend me their cluster i'd be more than happy to attempt it =)..

I know that adjusting frequency up gives mroe of a blue hue, while lower frequencys are more green. Adjusting the voltage affects the brightness. The less voltage the longer the life of the element, vs the frequency doesnt' really impact it much.

Yes ALL 1997s came with blue guages and red needles.Looked GREAT.Dunno why they changed but most of not ALL went back to green in 98.I remember in 96 when the 97s came out. I LOVED the guages.

They did this with the mustangs too.79-84 were green then NICE 85-86 RED and then went back to green but at least the 87-93s looked good. Then in 94 they went to blue.then in 99??they went back to green. They should just stick with blue and red needles.Looks killer.
