Question Mezeire Wiring Questions...Coldie, soap, etc.

Getting ready to purchase an electric water pump and wanted to get all of the wiring questions out of the way first...

According to the MM&FF article there water pump includes a wiring harness (which looks like just a 2-spade connector that plugs into another one) and there is an optional wiring kit that includes a 30-amp relay, wiring harness, etc. (WIK346) for $22.

For anyone who has installed one of these pumps have you wired directly (the one harness looks like a two wire harness with a fused wire for the power source) or have you elected to use the wiring kit with the relay? With either of the options what power-on source have you tapped in to? Lastly, does anyone have any pictures of their install with the wire routing, etc?

Thanks in advance,

Dan

Sorry Dan I have never had the opportunity to work with that water pump.

Good luck....

OK...

Here's my story...

I did not use the wiring kit.

I used the ground from my electric fan.

I got the spade connector from a local electronic store.

I ran the hot wire in the electric fan loom, along the top of the firewall (in with the other looms) into the fuse box. I used the spare relay location and grabbed key.

The end result is all my wiring is on the bottom side of the fuse/relay box and the electric fan/pump has a single cleam loom going to it.

I'll try and get some pictures for you, but no promises.

Coldie,

What fan kit do you have? I've got the JDM kit and I was just trying to figure out where you tapped into the ground if we have the same kit.

JDM

I've got the JDM kit. I disasembled the fan connector to solder in an extra wire. You could always just take a bit of the look off and use a crimp on connector.

I originally had mine wired to the same place the JDM elec fan was too... then one day I made a left turn and poof... blew the fuse. So now I have it hooked to my towing package relay... happy ending.

I still havent installed my Meziere pump yet but will be doing it soon. Wiring the ground is self explanatory and would be pretty hard to screw up. If anyone has a little more detailed info on the positive side wiring i would REALLY APPRECIATE IT!
Also, what circuit should a relay be wired too? and can a relay in the fuse box suffice?

Spoke to Mezeire today and you can use an MR78 relay which should be available at just about any auto parts store (Autozone, etc.) as that is what they use in their kit. If you follow their directions the wiring shouldn't be that hard. I plan on using one of the open relay spaces in the relay block (like the tow package relay space) and using a key-on power source from that relays slot. The one thing that I'm not hip on is the fact that the water pump just has a cheesey plastic connector for the harness. Mexeire's gone to a new weatherproof locking connector for the harness and they said they'd replace the one I have on there now.

Waterproof is good, but the connector on there is already pretty tight... It would be pretty hard to short it.

It has a 30 amp relay with plug-in and wiring harness (prewired) and a circuit breaker. The wiring harness is of high quality.

Alright, on Bad as L's recommendation I am going with the Painless water pump wiring kit. My questions for all of the electrical gurus are as follows:

The kit comes with a 30 amp circuit breaker included. Should I use this one on a dedicated circuit for the water pump or can I tie it (connection 30 on the water pump relay) into the same 30 amp circuit breaker that my electric fan is on? Secondly, can I tie the ignition-on power source wire for the water pump into the ignition on power source wire that goes to my electric fan (which currently has a 'spade' on it and is connected to the tow package relay space) or should I find another open relay space that has ignition-on power?

You need to use seperate relays.

The fan draws nearly 30A and the pump draws about 20A. This is not the place to be saving money on relays.

There is a aux. towing spot for a relay in the relay box. You can just use that for your water pump. It should be pre wired for power on (It should be the one you've got the spade shoved into for the fan)
