Kinda why ...

Unless you get the chip for under a $100 it's not worthwhile to buy a used chip -

Why buy used @ $150 and then it costs a $125 for a re-burn when you can buy new for same or a tad more ...???

New Diablo Delta flip, with led and switch and one burned program = $240.00

Unless the chip fits your application exactly and you don't need a re-burn it simply makes no sense at all...

not unless you get the hookup lol.

Plus it only takes approx 3 mins to download a program onto a chip. even at 100 bux for the reburn thats still $33.33 per minute or 56 cents per second.

plan a weekend to drive over to a tuner and get custom tune and pull some dyno runs. I sure could use it.

sonichog,

New flip chips are $390 from JDM. Even if you pay $150 for a used chip, and $125 to reburn it, you are still $115 ahead. On a part that doesn't "wear out", I don't see how anyone would have a problem with saving 30%.

FWIW, I also have a JDM flip chip for sale. E-mail me if anyone is interested. It is currently burned for a CUX-2.

You guys are assuming the contents of the "BURN" are free to the tuner.

I wont get into the argument about who can tune and who just dloads the programs

FWIW, I also have a JDM flip chip for sale. E-mail me if anyone is interested. It is currently burned for a CUX-2.

Blown93,

I am not making this post to you directly...I just wanted to use it as an opportunity to point out something about the 10 minutes worth of work.

I just came back from a trip to Orlando Florida, where my 30,000.00 truck was used as a lab rat for the 2003 Superchips R&D. I watched Mike Troyer go through 10 days of research with the Superchips folks. All of the time and expenses for the research and development has to be paid for by someone. Superchips or no one else for that matter pay these tuners for the time they spend developing these programs. At 125 bucks a pop, you are barely covering the expenses of developing the programs....they do deserve to make a profit, just as each and every one of us do in our choosen occupations.
IMHO....125 bucks ain't enough. I wouldn't do it for that.

Your paying for a whole lot more than just the direct labor it takes to burn that one chip.

Was that using direct tracing, driver tracing or allocation, and if support dept. exist, did you use the direct, sequential, or reciprocal method?

That R&D was not for YOUR truck only though. They were using it as a lab rat to develop something new that they would mass produce with variations and allocate that cost across a lot more than just ONE chip. Let's not forget about the price of the chip itself, not only a reburn.

It's like Microsoft Windows. Sure it takes a lot of money to develop Windows but Microsoft still comes out ahead at the end....

What's even better is I know a guy who does a dynotune for Diablo Deltas for only a couple of dollars more than a Flipchip. This includes as much time as needed on the dyno and one program on the Delta. Still seems like a better deal to me than just another mail order chip and $125 reburns.
