need pulley advice?

Hey guys. I'm kinda confused. i know there are lots of pulley threads. I say it and i say again i use my truck daily. I want the most speed out of it without it being in too much jepordy. At first i was going to run a 2lb lower with a nice single program street tune. then i read some where that a 4lb is just as safe as 2lb's?

I am without a doubt going to on occassion run it at high cruise speeds. especially if some ricer wants some. also thought about running the stock with just a chip.

anyways, would a 4lb be safe to run at high speeds with a modest tune?

I've asked the same question over and over myself. 2# or 4#? most people will say go for the 4# pulley b/c if you go with the 2#'er you'll end up upgrading to a 4# or 6#'er anyways. As for the high speed runs, let your tuner know so they can give you a safe tune, and run cold plugs. I still haven't made my mind up about the pulley. either a 3 or 4lb'er, only a pounds difference but its driving my crazy cause I have a 02 L with the supposed "weakened" rods. I'm most likely going to go with a 4lb'er, some cold BR7 plugs, and a safe tune. I had jdm's J49 program with stock boost levels and drove it in 20 degree weather with no audible pinging, also did alot of WOT highway runs with no problems, so i'll just send it to be readjusted for the 3 or 4lb pulley. I say go with the 4, and have fun, don't be paranoid like me.

yeah, at first i was set on the 3lber, cause mine is also daily driver.....

is it better to have the flip chip??? 1- street program safe tune with 4lber and then 2- more aggressive (not too extreme) for drag/street racing?

GREAT! Thanx guys for making up my mind. going with the 4. don't know about the 2 programs though. would like to use one program all the time so there won't be that learning curve at a light when im racing a porsche and i flip the chip. wich i tryed one day and would have smoked him but i had the stock problem of not being able to down shift at certain speeds like sal said. (no chip ofcourse) . would have owned him if only i had just a chip.Besides. I think with a good tune thats all it needs and it will beable to handle most situations. I don't race other lightning or svt vehicles. my main targets are ricers, corvettes, gt's, and exotics. heh.

I've been told a 4 or 6#er would be okay for a daily driver. I got the interchangeable kit. I'm running the 4 here in AZ, then when I move to VA, I'm gonna use the 6. Apparantly, the gas and altitude on the right coast facilitates using the 6 daily.

remember, SAFE is the word of the day. I'm keeping this thing till im dead in my garage. eventually im going to have a daily beater and mod the hell out of this thing to no extent. and if i bring in for a service with all this crap on, then screw them if im out of warranty. after the basics, im totally rebuilding the motor , probably with psp's lower end package. void the warranty, i don't care. works blower, i dont care. my truck, i do what i want. im not saleing it. but i want speed with some form of realiabilty and keeping the words "fastest production truck" in mind. not that it just halls *** off the line.

pulley options

I questioned pulley sizes too. I went with a #4, but I didn't make that choice until I was at JDM's having it installed, I think it was the right decision, it has performed flawless. Since it's your daily driver just have a nice safe chip done for it and colder plugs and you be ok.

Nate:

4#er is fine as a daily driver. However, as SOON as you get the chip, go have it dynoed on a DYNOJET and report the AFs to your tuner. I believe that finding out your Air/Fuel after every reburn/new program is EXTREMELY important to the longevity of your motor. Get it right the first time; spend the 65 bucks and make the trip to the dyno and find out your AFs for yourself.

Another thing is run the correct gap and range plugs and have someone who KNOWS what they're doing (or you with explicit directions) install them. I run Denso IT20s but I know that IT22s or NGKs will work. Ask for whomever burns your chip what you should run and hopefully they will give you the right advice. However, I would consult with this board if you are still unsure or just want more confirmation. Finally, have the installer (or yourself) torque them down correctly and do not cross-thread!

Also, with a safe tune, correct plugs, and the pulley, check your plugs periodically and make sure everything is kosher. You can never be too safe...

Again, just my .02 but I know that all the Lightning folks I know personally have followed these steps and are fine with 4#ers and +.....

Good luck...
