Nasty Exhaust Smell on startup.....

hey guys, i was just wondering if this was normal.... remember i had a problem with getting the lightning to start for a couple days.... well it starts fine, but i've noticed when i start up in the mourning or any other time, and i go outside the truck to get something or wait for it to warm up, it has a horrible burning smell coming from the exaust is this normal? or could this be a clue? or is it just telling me that it's ready for the bassani?

thanks for the help in advance.

Whatever your problem is.You either got problems with your truck that none of us has ever heard of or your a little too picky. No flame intended,i mean if your truck dont start, you got problems but ,no fuel cleaner is gonna fix it and an odd smell is almost impossible unless its gonna burn up .if thats the case, let it and buy a new one without problems

well normally i probably woundn't think anything of the smell, but once it decided not to start a couple days in a row, you kinda get parnoid you know....... but it is kinda a burning smell, it's probably nothing, maybe it's just this damn winter gas or, now that the truck has a good amount of miles on it, it's gonna smell like that, i had to post this just to make sure though you know, just being careful.

Thanks for your reply though, appreciate it.

Please don't take this as a flame, but asking somebody on the internet if your trucks exhaust smells normal is impossible. Without being there, nobody is going to be able to smell what you think may be abnormal. Even if they were to describe something similar, it may not be. It can only be done in person. I would suggest running by a shop or have a friend that has experience in car engines and have them smell it and see what their opinion is. Good luck.

Just out of curiosity... Has the dealer checked your truck for clogged cats?

Also, have them double check the PATS system. Even though they dont have a manual tranny like mustangs, i did have a problem where the pats interfered with me starting my vehicle within 300 miles of ownership. Ended up being the neutral safety switch but i know L's have them too.

These are the two things i find suspicious on your truck after reading your posts for the last few weeks.

For what it worth, in my 99 Lightning I had a burning plastic smell, didn't check it for a couple days, until the weekend. When I climbed under the truck (on jackstands) there it was........

a plastic garbage bag melted on the muffler

So you see, IT could be anything
