Okay, okay....here's a plug launch question

Yes, I did a search, but didn't come up with anything.

I'm about to buy a 2003 and need to know if Ford has done anything to correct the problem this year. I read the post about the 2003 launching a plug after 35 miles.

Here's my question:

Are the 2003's getting the same 4-plug-thread head (say that five times fast), or did Ford actually go to a new head?

BTW...I never had a problem with my 2001 Silver L. Plugs stayed in for over 12,000 miles.

I think superfords posted the information about the '03's and the new head design with more threads. Do a search for his posts and you'll find what you are looking for.

It actually depends when it was made....if it was prior to Nov(that's when the revised heads came out).I believe they may have the same heads

I know not all '03 have the revised design. I never said they did. My friend has an '03 with the old heads and it was built in October.

Also, I believe Chris said something about November 12th? I can't remember and was too lazy to do a search.

That story was from a troll....no truth to it

Ford went to the new style heads in Nov '02....I believe depending on build date the new '03s will get the new heads.

Thanks, y'all

Excellent info.

I found the post from Superfords. Going to the dealership with my trusty flashlight.

Now, all I need to do is decide on color. I'm thinking:

Red or Shadow Grey.

Hmmmm.

Just a suggestion, if you really are serious and wanted to know I'm sure you can have a tech actually take out a plug and check and make sure. I wouldn't think it would cost more than 50 bucks (for one) and they may even do it for free if you've already got your ballpoint and checkbook out. By the way, I always get my USED cars checked out before purchase so 50 bucks to make sure is not a big deal to me personally.

Also, be sure to retorque them and make sure the plugs were installed correctly. Another contributing factor to blowing plugs in addition to the lack of threads is that sometimes they are not torqued and installed properly. So you may want to check that.

Good luck with the purchase!
