If I were buying a WRX now, I would get a station wagon. Dunno why, I would just want to be different from the average import lover. It's only 70lbs. more in weight I think, but I could actually use the extra space for my bike (bicycle).

However I would definitely wait on a STi. And that price they're quoting you seems a bit high. I test drove a brand new one last fall and got the salesman down to around 22 I believe. I wanted no wing, base rims, and almost no luxo-options except the Momo steering and the rest of the performance stuff. Definitely get the STi-group suspension option.....

However, I was told by the salesman at the time that adding any of the FACTORY-INSTALLED STi options would void the warranty and simply walked out.....

Wait for the STi or EVO to make it to our shores, you won't be disappointed....

Let me help shed some light on the subject. I recently bought a new 2002 WRX as a winter/commuter car. You can get some good deals on these now, if you're patient and willing to look. I found a dealer with two hold over 2002's. They were willing to go $300 under invoice for these. So I picked one up for a tad over $22,600 (including destination charge).
Now the comparison between my WRX and Lightning: There is no comparison, they're two completely different vehicles. The L would easily destroy the WRX in a straight line. The WRX would easily outcorner a stock L. The L can haul lumber/cement/large appliances. The WRX can haul 4 full sized people. The L is easier to drive in traffic because of the auto tranny. You become more involved in driving the WRX because of the manual. I would suggest this (because it's what I have done). Keep the L and buy a WRX. When you get bored driving one, switch to the other. I have found that after 3 months of winter driving in the WRX, that I am really looking forward to getting back into the L.

Guess i'll wait for the STi/Evo which from what the salesman told me should be here in June. He told me whichever dealer sells the most WRX's per month will recieve an STi.

BTW. One last question..Do you guys think it would be wise to just flat out sell my truck or just trade it in? For a 99 L with 70K miles, I don't think i would get as much trading compared to selling. I do know when I had interest in an 03 cobra they offered 19K on my truck with 60K miles. Any of you have any experiences w/ 99L trade in values vs. selling value?

Thanks for the info guys!

The majority of the time you will always do better, price wise, selling a vehicle on the open market. It's always worth a shot to see what the dealer is willing to give you in trade value though. That way it will be easier to make a decision. Although the L's are excellent trucks, their is a limited market for them as opposed to a regular F150. This could make it a little more difficult to sell in a reasonable time and get the price you want for it. If it were me, I would get an estimate from the dealer for a trade in, then try and sell it for a couple weeks and see if you get any takers. If not and the deal at the dealer is reasonable, you can go back to them and make the deal. Don't be afraid to play the game with more than one dealer to. Use them against each other to get the best deal possible. Good luck.

Thumbs up 6 Speed Accord Coupe

I went for a drive in WRX and found it to be pretty fast for a 4 banger. They were ready to deal on the price since the new body style will be out soon. I really like the STi but think it will be awhile before you can put your hands on one. Then I went last weekend and drove a new 6 Speed Accord Coupe and fell in Love with it. Drive it than go drive a WRX and see which one you want to take home. Everything in the Honda felt solid. L's are great trucks but if you want a fun car check out the Accord.

Not to **** in your lemonade

But a couple of my buddies have these cars and there fun to drive... don't get me wrong...4 wheel drift on the decently modded on is pretty dope, however like any vehicle it has it issues ....and I quote " The F---ing tranny is made of Glass" this was my buddy Jerry's reply after he put handfull of mods on his Subby. Nothing big if I remember right...different down pipe intake, exhaust some form of boost contoller, relocated intercooler I think he was only pushin like 5lbs over stock. He threw some better tires at it and I beleive tranny one went down after about 2 month of occasional 4k dump tranny 2 he got 10k out of It I believe went threw a couple clutches..I think that was his driving style but yeah he's on his 3rd tranny the one they didn't pay for. Apparently I was told the tranny is a big weak point on these cars..I believe the issue has been address on the STI but again am unsure..Just some food for thought. By the way he didn't drive the car that hard..and my other buddy Clint is running low 12's very not stock and has long since tossed the warranty. I don't know to what extent Clint has gone on the mods I know he's droped some coin and that Subby is damn fast

what??

the tranny is the weak point of this awd powerhouse?????

, kinda like our rods and flying spark plugs.

Some dip**** was talking **** in the staging lanes last year about how his car will eat up lightnings because they can't stick to the track on launch and have no top end.......needless to say I handed him his *** Funny thing is #1, my truck is a very high 12 second truck, #2 I thought I was gonna get smoked at the 60 ft mark, but it was all downhill for him after that.

Keep the truck man, you can't throw plywood and a beer chest in the back of that thing!!!

A guy here in town has one and he also says the tranny's are the weak link in them. He modded it, tore the tranny up, dealership replaced it under warranty. He then tears the second one up and they voided his warranty due to the mods and his WRX is just sitting until he figures out how he's gonna cough up around 4k to fix it!!

Like the Lightnings, if you mod it, your pretty much on your own.

Mitsubishi Evo 8 my friend. I got a friend who is debating between the 350Z, Evo 8, and the STi. Well i guess my opinion is kinda biased since i used to have an 01 Eclipse GT Spyder. But anyways, the evo is nice, does 0-60 in 5 sec. flat, 1/4 mile in 13.8 sec. Its a little more than the WRX, but its a lot nicer, and its a lot better i think. The STi looks nice with the new body and all, but it wont be out for another year. So if u are gonna get something now, i would spend a lil more money and get the Evo 8, i dont think u will be dissapointed.
