ok you lightning guys...i have an idea...

Someone may have already come up with this idea, but a search brought nothing up. I have a super crew. I saw a super crew today, with lightning badges, rims, tailights etc. pretty much a lightning four door. talked to the guy at a stop light, he had a lowering kit on it, but he had only the 4.6 in it. i guess all flash, no dash.

My Proposal: A supercrew with all the stuff the guy above had, plus the lightning engine. Is that engine available in crate? Wonder how hard an engine drop would be? Also doesnt the lightning use a f250 tranny? this is just an idea, and moreover and expensive project, but sure sounds like a fun one to take on over an extended period of time!! Any input or ideas would be great! I was going to lift my truck later this summer, but since its 2wd, i figured maybe going the other way??

Between E-bay and the classifieds I am sure you could find everything you need but honestly it is a lot of work and a lot of money.
It would probaly be cheaper to just get the harley.
but if you want to do it go ahead and have fun.

no, what ford did was take a tuned down version of the supercharged 5.4, and slap some crappy harley stickers all over it. not the same thing. sorry if that came off offensive, i hate harleys ( i ride motorcycles) and it just pisses me off that ford tied in with harley to make that truck. i would buy it if i came in more than one color, didnt have those obnoxiosly huge rims, and didnt say harley all over the dang place. just a good ol' supercharged supercrew. i think it would sell nicely. just miop. ive opted out though to just lift it and do some engine mods(possibly supercharge later in the trucks life). ive always liked the look of lifted trucks vs. lowered, and me being 6'5 well a lowered truck doesnt just seem right for me. plus it will be a HECK of a lot cheaper.

P.S. to all you harely screw owners out there....im not out to bash your truck, if you like it, good. at least yours is superchared

Just buy a SuperCrew, and supercharge it, as this would be even cheaper.

supercharge it if you like but im sorry sticking a lightning badge on a supercrew is just a joke. I dont own an L but ill laugh profusely at anyone slapping L or SVT tags where they dont belong.

As for you hating the harley f150's. Lets say your prejudice of harley out of the equation. You have a supercrew supercharged 5.4 with a exceptionally well done interior and a great exterior. Its seriuosly an absolutely gorgeous truck in every way. Theres something im getting tired of in the auto world and thats attaching ideas to makers. I know there are people that just wont buy a chevy and same for the other way around. I say grow up. If they make a crappy car and you dont wanna buy it finek, but if they make a quality auto priase that because its hard to find (well if expense wanst an issue maybe not but when isnt it?) If we all thought like that we wouldnt be buying fords because of poor QA back in the day.

Btw you can change rims lol. Also you could sell the rims you take out for quite a bit, they sell very high. What color would you like a harley in btw? I think black is perfect although im not a big fan of the new two tone but thats just my opinion.

If you don't like it detuned you can easily correct that. That is much cheaper and much much much easier than trying to do what you are suggesting. Not to mention that your approach would omit one important piece of how truck works (computer code). Don't like badges, rims, color? Take them off, sell them, get different ones, repaint the truck, and you will stil get to final result faster and cheaper.

What is a point of supercharging lifted truck? Increasing speed and raising center of weight at same time is what rollovers are made of. To each its own, but I was thinking you were trying to talk logic to us. Supercharging lifted truck is not logical to me.

Don't think so. If you crunch the figures a lil bit you will see it is actually much more expensive than just buying HD as it is. Invoice difference between HD and SuperCrew Lariat is approximately $1500 once you try to compare apples to apples (both with a/t, 5.4L, leather, chrome tubular running boards, and fog lights). You would spend much more than that trying to slap on new engine (that alone is several K $s), supercharger, intercooler, etc. Not to mention that in a way HD is cheaper because in that price you get rims& tires that total to $5200 value ($1100 per rim, $200 per tire).

Bye the way, didn't you in your first post say this would be expensive project? How come you now say it would be much cheaper?

zoran,
when i said it would be an expensive project, i meant just that. just because i said it would be though doesnt mean i'd rather do it vs. going the less expensive route. for number crunching, i have an account with 4wheel parts and get everything at cost. id install myself, so that cant be factored in either. sorry about venting on the hd grinomyte. i have seen the interiors and they are very nice. i just dont like harleys, nor the badges on the the hd truck. i live in San Antonio, a very hot and humid place. black will not work for a car color. yes repainting is an option, but there is nothing better than the orginal factory paint (imop) unless you pay a nice pretty penny. supercharging my truck when lifted?? possibly way down the road, but not for crazy stunts or trying to make an L out of a lifted truck. just for more acceleration, thats all. look, after looking at my post, i see (and this happens alot on these forums too) that how i wrote it down and how you guys read it are a little different. i just had an idea to make a look alike supercrew L (i wouldnt put the badges on it, i know its not a true L, and not trying to make it one...just close with maybe the rims etc. not sure about the logic comment zoran...im just a college student with crazy IDEAS. never said i was going to do anything like slap a blower on a 24" lifted truck or anything like that. i just had an idea or two.

ANYWAY...like i said in my last post, im just gonna lift it. I like lifted trucks, always have. so sorry if i pissed anybody off, or offended or anything like that. im just here like everyone else to get answers and help when i can.

Nah, I don't think you pissed anybody off, at least not me. This is just an exchange of thoughts, ideas, and opinions, not a big issue. So, you put in your 2 cents and I put in mine, that's all, I don't see anything offensive about that.

Take care!

Don't be sorry. Yes, the Harley Davidson is a nice truck, but I've had it with HD. They're the biggest sell out ever. I think Ford is stupid for ever putting that name on a truck. Harley Davidson used to be about bad a$$ bikes. Now it's about everything but that. Yuppie central. I went to the Harley Davidson shop in Vegas (not the casino, which is worse!), and they had two bikes. Yes, two. However, they had plenty of HD womens shoes, baby clothes, cologne, etc. They need to give it up.

Man are those some true words. Ive been into Harleys for 20+ yrs and let me tell you. If you wanted a Harley t-shirt you went to the parts dept and they had 6 t-shirts nailed to the wall. All where black ofcourse. You told the parts man what # shirt and what size you wanted.

My jaw dropped to the floor, when for the first time last year in a long time, I went to the Harley dealer. Yuppie central is right!

Vinn is right man, its going to cost a ton and take a long time to finish...even then it may have problems. If you have a lot of fun fixing things then go for it...that kind of thing gives me a head ach just thinking about all the possiblities and things that could happen

Why don't you just buy a harley and trade rims with me? The badges are easy enough to get rid of....just trade rims with me and you'll be set.
