Smooth intake tube question

I was installing my smooth intake tube from razor's edge and I dropped the small grommet for the vacuum line into the engine compartment and could not find it! Can I drive while I get a new one?

You will be allowing unfiltered(and unmetered) air into the eng. Can't you jury-rig something else(tape, piece of vacuum hose, etc.) to fit the hole until you can get a grommet? I guess, driving it just a few miles won't hurt it but I'd be careful(slow).

That air doesn't go into the engine, it goes into the top of the boost bypass valve canister. I don't even know why it is there. The only thing it does is allow filtered air to travel in and out of the diaphram housing. Could probably run without it for a long time before it fills up with dirt
