Help...my truck blew up!!!

Do any of you know how i could have blown my spark plug out of my cylinder head...i had to get my truck towed to the dealership and that is the unfortunate news they had for me...they also said it is gonna cost me about $3100...I have a Accufab throttle body, PSP filter kit, 4# pulley, and a 4 way chip...could any of my mods have caused this problem...Any info would be greatly appreciated!!!

Sorry to hear

Sorry man not sure if any of those mods caused the problem, Have heard instances of bone stock trucks spittin em out. I take it your outta warranty... Some will advise heilicoiling the damaged cylinder if possible. Sorry to hear only advise is to periodically check your plugs. I heard that the best is to check them, run em down snug than another 1/16th of a turn. Problem seems to stem from plugs too tight or too lose, or just working loose. I really hope ford can get these heads figured out and recall them..and put proper threading in the new models. I'll be changin my plugs shortly and will make sure i get em in there good and become familiar with the whole process in order to keep my plugs in the head where they belong.

This has been hapening even on 100% stock trucks. It doesnt matter if he truck has mods, there gunnablow out either which way if they were never checked and re-tourqed again. Im guessing your out of warrenty since you have a price of 3100 for the repair. make sure they put the new heads on your truck with more threads. Sorry man!

Ouch, shouldn't have had it towed to the dealer until you removed the mods! Good luck man!

It's no 'joy' for you but plenty of regular 5.4(N/A) have launched plugs too. It's not just the Ls. It's the 4-5 threads in the aluminum heads that are weakened by over-tightening(my theory?).

Very true, I also notice alot of people blowing stock plugs out... Should have changed them when you mod!!! Stock ones are good for stock only!! I think some are leaving them loose to....

Man all these threads about blowing spark plugs and Ford really doing nothing about this is not helping my decision to keep the L or let it go to get a "GOOD" vehicle. I don't want to have something in the back of my head always nagging at me making me wonder if I hit the gas if my plugs are gonna fly.

What to do what to do.

3100???? ouch? you'd almost be better off getting a set of cnc heads from one of the vendors, i believe they are less than that, and you get a head with alot more threads in it.

Sorry to hear, it just happened to me last Friday.
I was lucky, I have a C&L MAF, and filter, and they never even brought it up...
Was in and out in two days!
I also have the factory warranty...

Trust me it isn't the mods, this is a more and more common problem with the 2V heads.
Apparently this is happening not only to the 5.4L, but the 4.6L Mustang motors, and the V-10 motors as well!
I would seriously ask the dealer to prove it was your mods, since they full well know it is due to a design flaw!

Maybe try and get it home, to remove the mods, and take it to another dealer?

Good luck!

I agree with that statement 99% of the time , but not this time.Too common of a problem throughout all mod and unmodded ranges.
At first I was like this will never happen to me. I check my plugs reguarly, but now I am like, How do I get the new Heads?
This is a head that should have NEVER made the SVT standards.
The rods either , but not a lot of N/A 5.4 breaking rods also.

if you warranty isn't officially voided, take it to a different shop w/o mods.

if they did void it. buy a long block from one of the venders and vooom vooom !!!

sorry to hear that, though, makes me mad. i'm just glad i do my own work, or i'd be screwed too.
