The Best Street/Drag radial

I was wondering what yall guys thought is the best street drag tire?
I was considering some weld wheels with mickey thopsons et streets or the nitto 555R. Tell me what you guys think?

Depends on what you're after. The ET Streets hook better but you better pray it doesn't rain whereas the 555Rs are still driveable in wet conditions. The 555Rs also have a higher tread wear I think.

If you plan on using these more at the track than street, go w/ the ET Streets. If you mostly run on the street, the Nitto 555Rs would be a better choice imo.

Also, don't forget about the Hoosier Quick Time Pro's. They're similar to the ET Streets I think. They just came out with the 28s too...

good luck

That sounds like what I have. Two sets of weld wheels. One 18x9.5 with Nitto 555R's and one set of 16x8 with Hoosier Quick time Pro DOT's 28x11.5x16.

To repeat(emphazise) what cyntaxx said; don't drive(at least not over 25-40 mph depending on how much water is on the road) in the rain(even drizzle) on M/T ET Streets. You will swap ends quicker than a NY second and you will have no control over the truck!

I run all summer long with the Nitto 555R's. They aren't bad in the rain at all. I've done 80 down the highway in a down pour and not a single problem. I've pulled a few 1.7x 60's with them. The Nitto's are a great alternative but you'll be lucky to get a years worth of treadwear out of them. Hope this helps....

how are they highway/high speed wise? i usually cruise around 90 and occasionally touch 120-130 on the highway. are they safe at those type of speeds?

also is there increased road noise, etc?

Go with the Nitto Drags!!! I've used them on all my Mustangs and now my "L" is able to pull low 1.7 60's on them!!! My best so far is 1.72!!! It's nice not having to change tires, but I still do if I'm going for low #'s or if someone PISSES ME OFF!!!

I don't think I could have put it better myself. Absolutely no problems in the rain. Great at the track(wish they were a little more consistent but oh well). If you frequent the track a lot you will burn them up. If you do a lot of burn-outs you will burn them up. But you can't expect 30,000 miles out of a soft compound tire.

Cyntaxx- My truck has seen 115MPH's several times with the 555R's several times. I don't like to go faster just for personal preference not because the tire limits me. Hope that helps.

Any other questions about the 555R feel free to ask away. -Mat-

I have taken the 555R's to 140+ many times. They have lasted me at least 5K miles so far and hopefully another couple thousand. I don't drive fast in the rain just in case...especially now since they are well worn.

Sounds like most of you are running the 555r's on the stock lightning rims. Anybody running these on something else and if so what and what size rim? (like basic ford ugly black rim or maybe an Aluminum Weld or Bogart or something). Also, if you are using a different style rim what size rim and what backspace?

I have used the 555R's on stock wheel, stock chromed wheel, and now weld prostar xp 18x9.5 6" backspace.
