Will a CUX2 computer work for a Lightning that originally used a CUX1? I ask this because I've had my Lightning since it was brand new and found out today that I currently have a CUX2 computer. My original CUX1 computer was replaced for a CUX2 by the dealership in early 2002. I was under the impression that the 99-00 Lightnings use CUX1 computers with the 01-03 using CUX2. Is this correct, and what is the different between the Lightnings CUX1 & CUX2 computers?

I was told that the air/fuel and timing from the CUX1 is different from the CUX2. Could someone please confirm this. Thanks.

 

cux 1 is 99 and cux 2 is for 00.

allot of dealers reflash the cux1 to a cux2 when you come in for service.

there's not much of a difference between the two, just emmisions controls mainly. they don't get wacky until 01's hit.

 

CUX2 is an upgrade for 99 lightnings. As was stated ofetn done by the dealer. Often without telling you

its not an upgrade, cux1 program was stock on 99's. I still run my cux1 program in my truck and its great. The dealers reflash them for emmisions pretty much.

 

CUX1 is the factory PCM for the 99s. CUX2 is the factory PCM for the 00s, and is a calibration update for 99s. If you bring your truck to the dealer for any kind of drivability issues, the first thing they will do is check for an update, and reflash the PCM if there is one. If you have a CUX1 chip, it will need to be reburned to CUX2 after the reflash. There are no performance differences between CUX1 and CUX2. The calibration changes are OBD-II and EPA related.

As a side note.....friend just had his 99 update/upgraded and his truck runs much better now that it is CUX2. He could never get rid of a detonation problem before on the CUX1 program.
Don't know why, but that is what happened.

Come to think of it his truck came with a transmission that was never right from day one either. It was changed under warranty also. Dale
