Just to be sure I plan on dynoing the truck after this mod and doing the A/F logging as I do with all of my dyno runs (55 to date). In the event the proPIPE leans the truck out I will have the chip reburned to compensate for the additional air.
As I understand it the stock MAF uses a heated wire. The more air that passes the wire to more electricity it takes to keep it hot. The Electricity is used in a table or program based on the diameter or volume of the 90mm maf to calculate the volume of air passing the down the pipe. If the internals are from a 90mm MAF and you DONT change the program you will be running real lean. Because ( as I understand it ) the same wire ( tiny wire ) gets hit by the same amount of air, BUT because the cylinder is larger the math that the fuel table should be based on is now OFF by 5% or more.... So the wire gets just as cool as it did before but you are really passing more air...

Maybe I am interpreting all this wrong ... BUT I would NOT run it with out an A/F meter...

Doug,

I'm right there with you. I want to be sure that it doesn't lean the truck out a huge amount.

I'm also skeptic...

Struck-

It seems to me that BABollt had indicated at one time that he had spent a lot of time figuring out the MAF and its location. Have you tried to talk to him?

I respect anyone who tries something new or different. I know you will document things via the dyno and A/F measurements. I enjoyed getting your emails on your dyno evaluations. Keep it up and good luck.

Suffice it to say that I'm confident that this setup is going to work and work well...

Need,

I have spent a good deal of time in conversations with Mike about the proPIPE so I'm not too worried about it working as described. I've also got some more items to dyno coming up (Extrude Honed and port matched upper intake plenum and possibly a Plasma Booster) so I'll of course keep you and the other members of the 'group' updated on what these are worth.

I've been wading through -

Posts about CAI - and intakes in general ... Got to tell ya' I haven't seen anything that supports the use of any of these aftermarket systems in the way of HP gains that would support spending hundreds of dollars for one...

As a matter of fact, I have seen more posts that support just the opposite - that the stock air box shows better performance.

I think I would rather spend $34.69 (and free shipping) for a K&N replacement filter and try and devise a way to get more cold air to the stock box than waste hundreds on these so called CAI aftermarket air boxes... Anyone care to reply and if I'm wrong please show me as my goal is more HP but with the best bang for my buck scenario. I don't think spending $300 for a CAI for 5 to 10 HP is constructive...

thanks Dan ...

After reading all that - it looks like I made the right decision (K&N replacement filter / stock box) for now anyway...
