Thanks for the help so far guys. Cyntaxx, It does kind of seem like a wraspy noise alittle bit, and yes it does happen at around 1600, but only then. I will be cruising up a lil hill that winds around and hear it a little bit, I always thought it was my belt b/c getting ready to throw out some boost...So I don't what else to say about it. and I changed my fuel filter probably about 4K miles ago, but I will change it out again just to be safe, maybe i got some nasty gas from somewhere. And i dont have any aftermarket cats, I have the bassani cat-back but thats the only exhaust addition. ONly thing i have done is a 12inch cone filter and FTVB. Any more info is appreciated, Thanks guys, Ill do the filter and try octane boost next time i get it out again, anymore suggestions that i should do? and if this isn't detonation, then what is it?
Keegan

yep TYT i had the same sound. it happened only during tip-in and would go away above 1900/2000 rpms. i did everything to pinpoint it. Changed fuel filter, rechecked plugs, regapped plugs, eventually changed chips even. SAME sound was there. it wasn't bad gas either...

i had a couple of other guys whose knowledge in Ls i trust (other L owners...) listen to my truck. they told me it was not detonation. even then i wanted to further confirm so i went to my local svt dealership and had their service tech sit with me as i drove around and reproduced the sound. he told me even the stock L's had this sound. we went for a drive in a brand new 02 L off the lot and sure enough it had the same sound.

all this happened during 50-60 degree weather in the fall so it wasn't the cold weather either.....

and finally, i had my chip dynoed and the AFs were safe at 11.5. during tip in i was a bit lean but nothing that would actually cause detonation....

i have put about 4k or so miles on the truck since noticing the sound. no problems at all....(knock on wood). in fact, i drive her occasionally even in -10/15 degree weather and have not had any problems.

hope this helps. i know it was frustrating for me at the time trying to pinpoint so hopefully you wont have to go thru the same thing.

Thanks for the info and time. I am stock, and still under warranty, so the worst that could happen is some warranty work, but my sound sounds like what you are referring to and hope it is ok in the end. Thanks for taking your experience and sharing it with others on the board, thats how it should work
