Coolant Change
Coolant Change
im gonna change the coolant this weekend and the ford cd says,
Note:
About 80% of coolant capacity can be recovered with the engine in the vehicle. Dirty, rusty or contaminated coolant requires replacement.
1. Release the pressure in the cooling system by slowly turning the pressure relief cap one half turn counterclockwise. When the pressure is released, remove the pressure relief cap.
2. Place a suitable container below the radiator drain**** (8115). If equipped, disconnect the coolant return hose at the oil cooler. Open the radiator drain****.
3. Close the radiator drain**** when finished.
Filling
1. Add the correct engine coolant mixture to the degas bottle.
2. Move the temperature blend selector to the full warm position.
3. Run the engine until it reaches operating temperature.
4. Add the correct engine coolant mixture to the degas bottle until the coolant level is between the "COOLANT FILL LEVEL" marks.
5. Turn off the engine and allow the cooling system to cool.
6. Repeat Steps 1 through 5 until the degas bottle level is OK.
is this enough or should the hoses and block and heads be flushed also, if i take it in is this all they do??
tks

I can't answer your question but I did learn something when I read my Haynes manual: "The recovery tank is called a 'degas' bottle, and it functions somewhat differently than traditional recovery(or overflow) tanks..........."

Yea i have always wondered the benefits of this system over the old, other than seems safer since there is no cap right on the radiator, and easier to visualy check level...
but for now im just gonna do what the cd recomends, at most what can the block and heads hold, a gallon????
