cost to rebuild a bottom end?

I assume we are talking rods, crank, bearings, etc. I think PSP has a bottom end kit for something like 1800 bucks or so...

What should I be looking to pay a competent mechanic to pull the engine and build it for me?

Is it better to buy a built shortblock and pop that in? What would be a good bet for labor cost (again at a competent shop) for swapping out the block?

Thanks

Ken

I think you are usually lookin around 3500 bucks for the block, and about 1000 to 1500 labor to R&R..... but dont quote me on this......

I could do a motor swap in about 3 hours with one hand. Beat that. But my labor rate it $500 an hour. I want a built motor! -Mat-

L8 Apex said if you had all the parts just the labor of pulling assembling and putting it back in would be about 3k

I paid 2806.00 for install of rods,pistons,bigger valves,porting and balancing..this included gaskets,arp studs,valvesprings ect.
I supplied the rods ,pistons and valves.
Your looking for an engine building shop and not a mechanic though...prefferebly one with mod motor experience.

I removed the motor but the build took way longer then planned so i ended up paying an SVT mechanic 700.00 to reinstall as i was too busy 4 months later when my engine was done.

I'm not necessarily looking for cheapest, but easiest and least expensive way.

I assume that buying a short block and then paying for someone to swap it would be more expensive than buying the parts and paying to have them put in, but the swap should be able to be done in a couple of days and I'm back on the road...

So, basically 5G for short block and R&R...

Who, in terms of vendors, is going to have the best bet? I assume they will all be blueprinted, computer balanced, etc...

Are they pretty much all the same price? $3500?

Ken
