yall settle this for me..
yall settle this for me..
me and my friend are in an argument right now, Limited Slip differential and posi-trac is pretty much the same thing right? if not please explain the difference to me. also if yall wouldnt mind would yall list different types of rearends and what they do?
If I'm not mistaken, a posi-traction rearend allways has both wheels spinning the same speed. A limited slip rearend uses a set of clutches and electronic sensors to detect if one wheel is spinning faster than the other and engage the clutches so power is applied to the slower turning wheel. I think Jeeps and Army vehicles used to (and still may) use posi-trac rearends. Posi-trac rearends are difficult to use on asphault or concrete. I beleive they are intended more for dirt and offroad use. I think a lot of people add "Lockers" to their offroad vehicles so they simulate a real posi-trac rearend.
Of course this is just my opinion and I could be wrong.

Posi tracs are not used much in todays vehicles because the rear end would hop pretty bad in turns because both wheels would be trying to turn the same amount but the outside wheel in the turn would have to travel further in the same turn.
Thus limited slip.......it acts likes posi in a straight line but slips in the corners for smooth driving.
