Unhappy My truck died on the way to college

Well I have a story to tell; its a little long sorry. This morning I was on my way back up to College Station to go to class at A&M when all of a sudden my truck just died. I had to glide off to the side of the road and I tried repeatedly to restart it but to no evail. I call Ford Road Side Assistance and they are great guys and gals, so they come out to get the truck with a flat bed and everything. When we tow it to the ford dealership my dad was there waiting for us. He got in touch with the service manager, who is sort of an accuantance now because my dad's F-250 deisel was the first there to get the dealer installed Banks Power system so they had to iron out a few bugs together. Anyway the service manager comes in very nice and said he would take care of everything and that my car was next in line for service, so we leave satisfied. Well a few hours pass and the guy calls back and says they can't find anything wrong with the truck, this is puzzling, but my dad told them to go ahead and replace the fuel pump and filter because I told him of the trouble some of you had had with this issue. The truck is a 2002 with 15,128 miles on it with no drag strip time.

your problem is the IAC, it's on the passenger side of the engine, and has a shiney tomato can looking thing atached to it, there are 2 bolts, remove them, and clean it out with brake cleaner or something. but my problem is still up in the air, your's is the IAC.

Alright so I called the service manager and told him what I found out. Apparently they started the truck right up and it worked fine for them. Is this typical of the IAC or should the truck not be able to run at all after it has gone bad.

when the IAC is clogged and dirty, the truck will start just fine, but then it will idle rough or it will stall, and if you can get it to keep running long enough then it will be fine, so tell them, or you can just do it, take not even 5 minutes, and clean you IAC valve, with your milege it's probably dirty.....

edit: oh and the IAC is not "bad" it's just dirty/clogged, it does not need replacing just cleaning.

Do a search for Rob_02, he had the same problem and took photos of him taking it off and cleaning it

IAC failures are best seen as the truck wanting to start but then just dies. if you hold for foot slightly on the accelerator to allow air into the engine you can keep it running...
