Anyone ever gone from aftermarket back to stock suspension? I'm about to
Anyone ever had any problem issues going back with the stock shocks/struts and springs on their L? I'm taking my truck to butler tire to see if they can do anything to fix my sloppy handling. When I lowered my truck it threw the tune way outta sync over a period of time...I've had my billtech on for about 7 months and i'm tired of it..It looks excellent but it just sucks when you always get skiddish taking corners. I don't have money to invest in a Hotchkis kit etc. I'm not an expert in suspensions so I didn't expect this from a lowering kit. If I would have known any better I would have bought a Hotchkis w/ all the goodies. Hindsight 20/20 i guess. If butler tire doesn't have a fix to my problem i'm gonna jack the ole bolt back up if it will give me my factory ride back... Just wanted to know if any of you had any problems installing your fac. shock/springs back on...
Sorry so long.. Thanks!

Rayden,
My initial guess would be the Nitro shocks aren't up to snuff and/or they are shot. They are more of an appearance shock than a performance unit IMHO.
The coils may be the culprit as well if they are close to stock rating.
When you mention the truck is skiddish, is it understeering (turn wheel, still go straight) or oversteering (rear end coming around)?
Did the kit include different bumpstops and swaybar endlinks or are you still using the factory fitment?

I have the FRPP kit on my '01. Towards the end of last season, it seemed that the alignment was going out of whack- wandering in corners, front end plow, etc.) I didn't take it to the alignment shop before putting it away for the winter, but intend to have it checked first thing in the spring. I agree that these issues are bothersome, but the look is awesome. I guess I'll ahve to live with twice yearly alignments.

ive been looking into the belltech kit,and
seen alot of guys changing the shocks
to doetsch tech or qa1s, my friend has
454ss with a belltech kit and said the
b/t shocks were no good, he switched to the
doetsch tech and said its so much better.

ON the back end did you use shackles or different springs? also trash the shocks and buy good ones and not the bilsteins you will be in the same spot in about the same time period. If you feel like the rear end is coming uot from under the truck or feels sloppy then it is the shackles you need to put a locating device on the rear axle to keep it under the truck[panhard bar of watts link]Stan
PS not to rain on anyone parade here but that end link kit does not help the way everyone think it does. The difference in height between the different sway bar heights is NOT enough to make more than 15 lbs of difference.Where you are feeling it is because it is more positive[no slop] and that is because instead of rubber mounting it uses heims so there is NO slp in the end link.Sorry for bursting your bubble.Stan

Ok I guess the first step is to change my shocks..Maybe doestch or QA1s which ones are the cheapest? Will I have to change the springs also? I don't know the spring rating on these belltechs but would hate for them not to be compatible with the shocks. I think i'm also gonna do those endlinks b/c I remember someone mentioning that to me on here before. The enlinks are suppose to reposition the sway bar back to factory setting right??
BTW I do have shackles and springs on the back of the truck..
By the truck being "skiddish" through corners I mean, the back feels like it wants to come around and the suspension feels really soft now and loose. Also for some odd reason my steering wheel has way too much play in it..I know that the suspension being crappy is part of the reason to that also

Fast Gator, that is what I mean!!As for shocks i would just step up to the plate and buy the better shocks[QA1's] you won't be disapointed by a little shorter in the ck'ing account, but you get what you pay for in that area.Stan
