23 grand in a L, or a stock m3??

alright guys,

i am having a debate with my friend. after reading the thread about how much money you all put into your trucks. here is the scenerio:

*equal drivers
*average ROAD course
*23g's in performance mods in a 2003 lightning ( braking, handling, straightline performance.)
*a stock 2003 BMW m3 coupe with the 6spd standard shift gear box.

so with this scenerio who will win? i think a L can be made to hang with if not beat a m3 with close to 25g's in mods. again... PERFORMANCE mods only. he says the stock m3 will win. who is right.

we know they are two completely different beasts...but with the addition of $23 worth of mods they are bassically in the same price range. please try to keep your answeres un-biased. thanks.

You could easily make a Lightning to beat a stock m3 with 23k in mod's!

he said road course though...

i still think the lightning would win. 23k is a lot of mod money for just performance (mainly suspension i assume)

In the quarter mile it would be no question, the lightning. But on a road course the m3 might take it.

what would you do to actually make a L compete with a m3 in the handling department? just lower it, shocks, wheels, tires? what else?

I agree that straight line the L will win but the M3 is one of the best handling cars on the planet and will run circles around an L on a road course, no matter what you do to it.

I know because I've owned and raced both.

Chip, filter, pulley... thats about 700$. That makes the L a lot faster than the m3 in a 1/4mile. Now you still have 22,300$ to spend suspension and whatnot. Theres no WAY a L would loose to an m3 with 23,000$ in mod's. Actually, throw 4,000$ for a built block, 3,000$ for aftermarket blower. Even then, you still have 16,000$ to go into suspension. Anyway you put this money into an L, L win's it easily!

i agree its one of the best handling cars out there...but i also think 23 grand is enough to hustle a L through a road course faster than a stock m3....but i do not know. i have not raced either. but then again...i doubt you have raced a L with $23 worth of performance mods in it either. ( performance meaning breaks, suspensions, and drivetrain.)

L vs M3

I think you could put 23k worth of mods on most solid high performance platforms and do well, what you should add is for 10k less than that you could make the BMW a corner moster and make alot more interesting.

Hmmm........

I am not a suspension guy so I can't really answer the question. I did beat a M-5 though going straight line and he got the jump on me(I didn't know he wanted to play). That was before my custom tune and headers I think. -Mat-

5000 lbs Vs 3000 lbs. That alone is tough to over come. How many laps? No doubt the L can be made faster but for how long? Ultimately I think the M would prevail. An automatic on a road course sucks bad. Big handicap.
