Header stud torque #s
Header stud torque #s
I've done a search on this, but couldn't find anything...I'm installing a set of LT headers and was wondering what to torque the stock studs down to. I called JDM, but they couldn't really tell me. They said somewhere in the neighborhood of 35ft/lbs. Thanks in advance for the info.
the factory studs should be torqued into the head a 9ft/lbs
the factory nuts are torqued to 18ft/lbs
-------------------------------------------------
But, I didn't reuse the factory hardware. My headers came with new header bolts. the torque on header bolts MAY be higher, but still the threads in those aluminum heads will only take so much.
Oh, and good luck getting any kind of accurate reading with a torque wrench on some of these bolts (or nuts whichever you use) due to all of the extensions and universal joints and/or swivel sockets you are likely to need, the measurements are likely to be off. If I remember correctly, I couldn't get a socket of any type onto one of them and had to use a wrench.
good luck.
later,
chris

I don't have headers on my L, but on my car, whenever I change header gaskets I always go back and retighten them after I run the car for a couple of days. The gaskets seat after a couple of heat cycles and the bolts aren't as tight as they were.
