Most common way engine are tossing rods?
Most common way engine are tossing rods?
I know, I know the million dollar question, here goes anyway...
For those who have thrown a rod, what were the conditions when this happened?
1) 1/4 mile runs
2) higher rpm bursts
3) street driving
4) street racing
5) highway driving
6) colder temp's
thanks

I have to answer everything even when I know
nothing about it, but here I go.
1) 1/4 mile runs = Don't know of any, I'm sure there's a few
2) higher rpm bursts = Nope again
3) street driving = 25%
4) street racing = Don't know any, might be though ?
5) highway driving = This makes up most of them, I'd say 50%
6) colder temp's = yes lots blew right as it got colder @ 15%
Personally I believe this is what blows our Motors 90% of the time, the other 10% is from over pushing it
1) Too much timing (Detonation)
2) Fuel delivery (Clogged filter) (clogged injector) (pump problem)
3) Too Hot a plug (Leans Out)
4) Bad Gas (Detonation)
5) Bad batch of Rods (Boom doing nothing)
nothing about it, but here I go.

High Speed runs above 110 mph with a hot program in the cool weather.
A hot plug will lean out if your program is not tuned for it.
My cold weather program has 19 degrees of timing and is pig rich. I'm running TR5's and a 5# pulley.
I flogged it the other morning up to 110 mph in 34 degree temps (93 octane Texaco) with absolutely no pinging.
One program will not get it with big pulleys and drastic temp changes.
My warm weather program with 21 degrees of timing will ping like a bitch when it hits the 40's. Especially with winter gas.
I know it seems like a lot of timing but my 2000 loves it. I have been running this warm weather program for almost 2 years and it's just been tweaked for added mods. It's appropriately named LB1.

yep i've heard of these scenarios the most i think:
i was getting off an onramp and decided to hit it. Went all the way to 100 and all of a sudden...yadda yadda yadda.
I do think it's stupid when some schmoe buys an L and slaps on an 8#er and runs a JET chip but I wouldn't blame it all on the owner of the truck....
