Advice please!

A bit long, so bear with me please. I've been heaing a rattling noise under the hood pretty much since I've had the truck (Sep 02). The noise is not extremely loud, but noticeable. It only happens under acceleration, but only while in motion; not while parked and pressing the gas. It also does not matter if I'm in boost or not, just acceleration. I have a chip and filter that I removed when I took the truck in to be looked at. The tech rode with me and clearly heard the noise. When I brought it back to be looked at, here's what the work order reads:

"Customer states that there was a rattling from the engine. Customer went for a test drive with tech to verify. Road tested to verefy complaint found relative to boost gauge for supercharger. Checked bulletins and called hot line=115-495-498 for asst found nothing abnormal with the noise when supercharger is kicking in. Found on page 268 on owners manual recommended ocatn and correct oil for this engine. Need to put 5-W20 as recommended and 91octan fuel. Request to put correct fuel and oil and recheck. Can compare to simular vehicle and notice noise is relative to boost gauge"

A few points: I did not use 5-20, but Mobile 1 5-30, they know this because of the sticker on my windshield. Also, the noise is there regardless of being in boost, and was there before my first oil change. I always use at least 91 octane. And finally, the dealer is not SVT.

So, here's where I need advice. I will take the truck back where I bought it, but was wondering if I should put the mods BACK on. Please remember this noise was there before I put the chip and filter in. Since they didn't cause it, and the techs may do a more thorough check the next time, they may want to get into the PCM. Since the 1st dealership didn't see the mods, nor annotate anything about mods, just oil and fuel, they would collaborate that there were no mods the first time. I'm not worrying about what happens to my warranty after this, I feel lucky, but this noise is making very anxious. Any thoughts, other than "you play, you pay, blah, blah, blah?" Please advise. Thanks.

PS If this matters, I have a triple gauge pod, 4#er and densos waiting to be installed too.

Take it to your SVT dealer, one that you bought the truck from if possible. I would NOT put the chip n filter back on.....unless you have a very good repore with the service writer/mechanic.

Good Luck, but it sounds like the dreaded piston slap. Use the search and you will find more than you can read in a day

btw ....I use 5-30 Amsoil, so its all good

I don't think the "rattling noise" has anything to do with your 5w30 Mobil 1.

It may have to do with this:

definitly leave the mods off...just pray they dont take a look at the computer box and see it was chipped....if they arent a "mod friendly" dealership they will most likely tell you to get bent and void your warranty. If you can get to a SVT mechanic then do so I guess....I have noticed most of the other service centers around me have only had maybe 1 or 2 lightnings ever grace their garage and dont know a supercharger from a battery charger, good luck brother
