Long tubes & starter

Question for the guys running long tubes. Are you using any heat sheilding around the starter? Those tubes seem to run very close. Have you had to add any extra heat sheilding any where?

I havn't had any trouble. The only place I had trouble is I had to cut part of the passenger wheel well away, it was hitting the pipes.

Thanks Daniel I will keep an eye on that. I know some had trouble with tranny wiring. Which wires to watch?

I can't see why you would have trouble with the trans wiring. The exhaust runs in a tunnel[heat sheild] and all the wiring should be on the outside of that shield. On my install I ran into zero problems with fitment.Stan

Thanks Stan. I didn't see any trans wiring problems on my install. I do remember reading a couple of posts where people burnt up a harness with the L/T's. The only other tranny concern I see is on the passenger side. The return line runs very close to the heat sheild. Right where the O2 sensor plugs in.

The 02 sensor leads on the passenger side were burned through on mine and caused the tranny to go crazy. You have to make sure to tie the 02 leads away from the headers or you'll be riding home in limp mode.

My install was alittle different from everyone else but I did notice that the O2 comes out very close to the coolerlines also.I think mine was almost between them but still fit ok.Did you get the O2 extensions to work?Stan

No problems with the starter here.

Mine was slightly burned.

I also cut the fender liner so the the heat shielded wire would be further.

I'd rather be safe then sorry, so moving wires away from heat IMO is very worth it to do.

there are some differences in truck years too... Pete's 01 had a wire running over there that I don't have on my 2000, mine is rotued somewhere else.

Cool

HI!... I wrapped my starter with some heat reflecting mesh made by DEI. It's got velcro on it and you trim to fit. I thought the same thing after installing my JDM/KOOKS long tubes and decided to protect the starter. I also removed the aluminum heat sheild that used to go around the stock cats. I also had to trim the PS inner fender well a bit.

I did get the O2 extensions to work. I had to grind the ears off the stock sensors then it went together.

Haven't re-installed the inner fenders yet but I did re-route the starter wires to be safe.
