dont know about the thump eaither. motor pulls strong. its right under the drivers side floor board. only does it occasionally when i idle. exhaust maybe?

About the tire: i ment the actuall wench and cable that holds the spare up there under the bed (the whole housing). i want to take it off. im having problem with the big plastic tube guide that houses the thing to lower it. once i get that thing off, wont be a problem.

the thump

Maybe you need to UN-pump up the volume on your radio.

Can the clunks cause this??

check your pcv valve if our trucks have one (Just switched one out on a friends ricer and fixed his rough idle no problem, never done it on my truck though) and plugs, could just be a rough idle.
Also may want to clean the iac valve and check the fuel filter, a rough idle is not neccesarily a bad thing, but it can definately lead to bad things if unatended to.

NateTrun2,

I could venture a guess that it maybe related to your ABS (Anti Lock Brakes) system. Occasionally, the ABS system will go through a system check which can result in what seems like a thump or thud coming from the floorboard. The ABS Hydraulic Control Unit is located on the driver side frame rail close to the air filter. When it does a diagnositic system check the movement of the hydraulic valves can be transmitted through the frame rail and sound like a thump or thud which is normal. This is only my opinion as you said the sound was very occasional and intermittent.

Good Luck
