Ping Tampa L's - Back from Tampa w/ 3 more inches of snow, thinking about moving!
Went to clearwater/tampa/ for the weekend,
of course my wife picked one of the cooler weekends, lol, but it was back in the 60's by sunday, come home last night to 3 to 4 more inches of snow
we are seriously considering moving to that area, we've been a few times and really enjoy it
have a few questions though,
whats crime like?
whats race relations like? (we're from cincy, so black and white isn't the best here, i got no beef's, but would love a better area)
what r some decent neighborhoods to look for apts or townhomes as i'd probably rent the 1st year til we get our feet wet? (preferably withing 30 mins from the beach)
and of course the obvious - dragstrip/ 's?
would also consider st.pete

Beefcake,
I could probably help you out. I'm in my mid 20's, movied to St. Petersburg / Clearwater area a few years ago after graduating & living in New York.
*I've moved 3 times now and have a general idea where to live.
*Race relations are just fine. I'm from a very small town and was nervous at first but that was unfounded. Just use common sense, of course there are bad areas.
*I live in some kick but apartments very centrally located for myself. 15min to airport, 15min to beach, 15min to northern clearwater......you get the point.
*Drag strip, of course, bradenton...... one of the nicest around, miami guys say it's better then moroso, orlando guys say it's better then theirs, but I here gainsville is nicer.
*Traffic sucks.
Email me for more specific help. Onelfastlride@aol.com
PS.....To bad you missed Gasparilla, a week or two early.

Tampa's very laid back.
Race Relations are fine, just your normal stuff.
Crime is normal and only bad in the bad sections of town.
Which would be East of 275.
I rent in Tampa and would only live in a Post Apartment Complex.
Good facilities, nice grounds and security gates.
Most of the L guys go to Bradenton because the local dragstrip in
St. Pete is 1/8 mile and filled with ricers.
Here's my outlook on the main 3 places to live.
Tampa = Old homes for to much money. if you want to live in a new home
you have to find one well outside the city boundaries.
Stay out of Hyde Park, alot of Yuppies in BMW's.
St. Pete = Most that lived there are retired. There are alot of golf courses
and Condos for the elderly. Also it's expensive.
Clearwater = If I was to buy in this area I would live here.
Decent houses, not overprices yet. Close to the beach.
People are always nice.
Hopes this helps.
