Spent all Saturday down at REM
Great guys down there, especially Tim and Paul. I had planned to have a dyno tuned Diablo chip done for the truck. We did a baseline pull with the Superchip flip-chip I had already installed, then tried two programs with the Diablo. Tim noticed a miss under load, and it grew worse after each pull... so we backed the truck off the dyno, and started pulling plugs. Guess what we found on the back plug on each side? Yep, the hardest to reach plugs were broken, with the ceramic insulator cracked and floating around on the electrode. Have to like Denso IT22s, eh?
Replaced them with NGK R5724-8's, back on the dyno. Idle was good, but still stumbled under load. Back off the dyno, pulled the passenger side injectors. Flow tested them (yep, REM has all the neat toys). All flowed close, but we went ahead and put the fattest two injectors on the back cylinders (farthest from the fuel feed on the rails). Still stumbled under load.
So 6 hours later I have a truck thats idling better, running stronger (up 3hp and 10ft/lbs torque) but still not what it could be. The one toy REM doesn't have (yet) is the the Ford tool for doing load balance testing on the coil packs. So I have to get that done locally, but I have a good Diablo chip now and Paul tells me once I figure out whats going on with the truck, to bring it on back down for dyno tuning.
Did I mention that since we didn't accomplish what I came down there for, he only charged me for the chip, 3 hours labor, and the plugs? So that labor covered a plug change, injector check, 8-10 dyno runs, and a lot of technical brainstorming. I'm pretty happy with the results, even if it isn't perfect yet, and definitely will be going back to REM for future tuning and mods.

Now that sounds like a great guy, great shop, and great service, WITHOUT THE RIP-OFF
Hats off to Paul, Tim, and REM
I'm a walking commercial for Denso IT-22's and think they're the best of the best for our L's.
"IMO the Denso's "IS NOT" why that happen". But what do I know
Sounds like you had a great day 2 Cool, learned more about the truck, and walked away with more power.

I sure hope your not trying to say the Denso just broke. Well maybe you are
Anyway as long as your happy, then Iam happy.
I wanted to stop by their shop when I was down in Florida at Christmas, but just ran out of time. Next time Iam down, they will be on the top of my, things to do list

I never had problems with the IT-20's, went to the colder IT-22's and the truck started missing after a week. One tip on a plug was broke off, about 100 miles of driving. Put NGK-TR6's for right now. I'm going back to the IT-20's. This is my 3rd set of TR6's and they work good, but the Denso's seem to have a smoother idle IMHO.
I'm wondering if there is manufacturing problems with Denso??

I suspect 1 or 2 coil packs are bad, as I believe does REM from the sound of it. This is a common problem. It can also be difficult to trace as normally one replaces one at a time until the issue goes away, but a good start is number 3 and 4 to check.

I know Hank...The Denso's are expensive..
There's not a lot of people who believe in the price difference of the two. Ngk's $20.00, Denso's $85.00. You can change your plugs about 5 times fro the price of the Denso's.
My truck seems to idle smoother with the Denso's, but the track performance is the same with both type plugs.

Well, there was some signs that those two cylinders were running a little leaner than the rest, as in the white ceramic and slight green on the ground straps. All the rest had a nice light almond color and grey ground strap. Thats why I moved the highest flowing injector back there, to richen up the mixture for that cylinder. Plus the NGK -8s are even cooler than the TR6's.
Paul tells me that lately there have been some issues with IT22's, possibly a quality control slipup. Idunno, but the NGKs are idling better for me, and at $2.50 each I am going to stick with them.
Forgot to mention that I also bought a fuel filter from them, and swapped it out myself while they were flowing the injectors. So that wasn't an issue either. Basically its narrowed down to a possible weak coil (fairly common apparently) or maybe a fuel pump problem. At least I know where to start looking now.
Still managed to waylay a pretty black '02 SS this morning, so even a "weak" lightning is to be feared in the General's camp...

I know you guys seem to love the Nipondenso plugs but my 13 years for selling denso then changing to NGK there is no comparision the Ngk's are better hands down to the denso's. They last longer and will take much more abuse. I have never had a NGK fail but when I worked at a Subaru Dealership they always came with NGK when they started to build the Legacy's in Ill. they changed to Denso we would have new cars come into the shop with 3miles on them missing and everytime it was a Denso. If you check with a Motorcycle shop they will 9 times out of 10 be using NGK why they last longer and are trouble free. This is just my experenxe with Denso and NGK when I change mine NGK will be the plug of choice.I hope this does not tick anyone off but try the NGK's from the Denso and you will see the difference.
