Ford EPEC?
Ford EPEC?
I saw that superfords had something called a ford EPEC on his mustang. It allows you to alter everything like a chip does from your laptop or desktop. Would this setup work on our trucks?

no, it's only for EEC IV processors, in fact it is only for Mustangs if I remember correctly.
it is a very powerful tool though. you can control spark timing, fuel injector pulsewidth, set rev limits via either spark or fuel, change injector size (without recalibrating MAF sensor), change engine displacement!, control nitrous system, use as a studder box, it'll do timing retard under boost, um, you name it, it'll pretty much do it. not to mention data logging capabilities.
BTW, it's for sale possibly along with a compaq armada laptop because the car buyer didn't want it.

chris
edit: just read the link you gave: unless the EPEC has been updated or upgraded since I bought mine, then some of the information in that link seems inaccurate. The EPEC is made by FORD and wires directly into the PCM harness and has it's own hardshell connector to attach to the pcm. the EEC IV PCM has 60 pins, while the EEC V has 104 pins. the epec won't do low impedance injectors without having drivers added (not a biggie, but doesn't or didn't come that way stock when I got mine). and again, I feel certain that the system only works on mustangs for some reason, but I may be mistaken. I'll check into it. maybe it has been upgraded or the company is modifying them to work on other vehicles. BTW, if you notice though they claim it'll work on EEC V, they state, quote:
this may mean that you can't use the system on our trucks or at least can't control the transmission functions even if the system could be adapted to Lightnings.

In addition, the EPEC adapter harness can be modified, along with the factory engine harness, to work with many more EEC electronics configurations that do not require automatic transmission controls

For more info, I'd contact Jimmy LaRocca at www.laroccas-performance.com
he's up in Old Bridge NJ, and he's pretty much THE MAN when it comes to EPEC. I'm sure he can give you all the accurate info.
here's what it looks like:
hell, if it'll work on Lightnings, I'll keep the thing and use it, but i'm fairly certain that it won't.
