who drives without o/d?

Just wondering if anyone drives with o/d off in the city. I find its easier driving in stop and go traffic with o/d off. i hate lugging around my truck at 45mph and stop it dead weight light after light. is there any problem with this besides it uses more fuel? and i can swear it runs cooler. at 45mph (i don't drive over that around here) the engine runs at about 2,900 rpms. this ok?

thanx
nathan

Hummm, I dunno if theres anything wrong with it, I don't see why there would be, I do it too. Factory Tech should have an answer.

I never turn my O/D off unless it's icy out and then I use to help slow me down instead of hammering on the brakes.

I turn overdrive off sometimes for fun on the highway at 60-70ish so that I can stay higher in the powerband. (with 3.55s, 70 is 3000rpm)

I do it all the time. I like my exhaust to be nice and loud. I don't like the way it sounds in OD until I am over 55ish so I turn it off when I cruise. You aren't gonna hurt anything doing this. Just a tiny bit more strain on the motor for running at high RPMs. -Mat-

Most useless darn button in the truck. If I was king, it would be under the hood, behind a welded on cover guarded by a hungry tiger and labeled "Towing in mountains when it's hot switch"
The Torqueshift finally did away with the thing.

I do to drive with it off most of the time while around town. If I'm gonna go above 55 then it comes on. I just don't like it when I'm driving like 40 and under 2000 rpm. It feels like it's more strain on the motor. Plus I like to hear my exhaust too

I drive with it on all the time. The only buttons I push are for the stereo.

I turn mine 'off' when in town(below 50 mph). If anything, it's better for the eng. because it removes the 'searching'(in and out) and therefore, keeps the eng from lugging. I also turn it 'off' for some 'stops' and low-speed turns.

Btw, I get 14.8-15.2 mpg even turning it 'off' from time-to-time.

Masterloggie leaves his 'on' for dyno pulls.........

Only take it off at the track. I doubt is does anything but it is part of the pre race ritual.

Can we tow with it in overdrive? I know it used to be a big no-no a few years back on the what was it 4eod trans. It does not say in my owners manual one way or the other so whats the deal. Is the 4r100 able to tow in OD?
