69stangscj - If the sound worsens I'd take it to the dealer.

SVT_KY - Supercharger mains ???. Well, one way to really determine that is to use a set of good mechanic stetoscopes and
listen to thos bearings during a normal warmed up condition and
then compare that to first morning cold crank up...let us know
what you come up with.

Rob_02Lightning - Yeah, these engines produce some of the strangest sounds around.

LIGHTNINROD - Very good idea Dan....well have to try that...
great way to isolate the SC from the "noise loop".

thepawn - You might want to follow LIGHTNINROD's idea...and
a sound stethoscope would greatly help in tracking that and most
other noises.

Paging dealerjim - This past sat am tried squeezing the air inlet's and there was NO change in the sound...so it seems it's not coming from the airbox. On my Bolt the sweet spot for this cokebottle sound is ~900-1000 rpm. After normal warmup no more sounds. Even if the truck sits for 4 or 5 hours (in the cold)
this sound does NOT reoccur...it's just in the early am first cold start up.

A 03 here, W/1960 miles. Mine just started this yesterday 1/26/03 about 25F. It sat outside for 9 hours while i was at work, started it up. (I normally start it and go back inside, so I don't freeze myself) *S* Then it went away once it warmed up. (the motor) Well this morning my wife and I were running late, so we both sat in the truck as it warmed up. It started again, so I played with the thottle a little. (it was 0 out today) It only did this at 1500rpms and at about 900 rpm only. It has never done this until yesterday. It was cold here yesterday, but it has been colder, and it did not make this noise. I hope we can pin poibnt this, cause I don't want my 30thou dollar truck sounding like this.

I'm still sticking to my story. Its the torque converter making the noise.Do what I did. Have your significant other come out with you in the AM and put on your parking brake(all the way) and poke your coconut under the truck.Have them put the truck either in reverse or drive right after you start it up.If it is the T.C. then you will hear it loud and clear. (note to self---make double sure the parking brake is on AND the driver stays on the brakes) Otherwise, thats how they make angels!

MotorcycleMan - We should be able to pinpoint this. Mondo1 really feels it's the torque converter...thats easy enough to check out as long as your getting along well with your "signifcant other".
My truck does this at the 900 rpm range (every cold morning lately).

Mondo1 - well...glad your sticking to your story...you may be right.

Georgia_Moon:
I'm sure this board will find it. And he might be on to something about the trans thing. Mine has been moving a little forward on COLD start ups here lately. Might be it.

On a funnier note. My dog this morning went plum nuts when the truck starting making the noise. I swear, if the fence had not been between us, the truck would have been attacked, or something. He start darking, growling and even had his hair standing up on his back at the truck, which he has never done, ever. It was really funny to watch him, every time I'd make the truck make the noise, he'd start all over again. That's how I know it did it at 1500rpm, & around 800-1000rpm.

MM: I think you'll find that all of them do this:

"Mine has been moving a little forward on COLD start ups here lately. "

They lurch forward against the Park stop.........

For all of you that are not sure if the noise is the same as Georia Moon's, he has agreed to fly his dog to your hometown. We can go from there.( hey...technicians like this are hard to come by!)

MotorcycleMan - I don't have a dog but do have a redneck attack
cat named "Booger" and booger does NOT like the sound of WOOING etc in the morning. My cat has had special "Seal" training too but is not SVT certified. Yep, truck is starting to "lurch" forward a little more than I noticed before.

69stangscj - So your taking your truck to the dealer thur...you going to leave it overnight ? (sorry to say it needs to be left outside to get really cold)...let us know...you might want to mention to the tech about Mondo1's idea of the torque converter.

Mondo1 - maby this is a very special alien DNA altered (kinda like a "Lightning WOO WOO detector") dog.

LIGHTNINROD - I dont mind too much the bolt lurching forward as long as it does not rip through the garage with me infront of trying to locate the origin of this WOO WOO sound.

Yes I know that they lurch forward, I've read that on here befor. Was just wondering if that might be the cause on the noise? Mine has done this a few times when it is really cold out, but only the coke bottle noise twice, once at 25 degree, & once at 0 degree. This has not happen again, and it has been that cold or colder here in Ky country.

Mondo1

(LOL, @ Mondo1) At $50 hour, this can happen.

Georia Moon's:

Well my dog has had SVT training. (top of his class) All I know is, he is not talking to me about this. (until I feed him more dog biscuits, and no, that is only the price I have to pay, everyone else is $50 a hour) *L* He just knows it's a problem. Plus he did say "CAT", they taste like...well CAT. hahaha

I'm not too worried about the noise really, not until it does this all the time.

Would someone drive by MM's house and see if he indeed
set the emergency brake BEFORE having his significant other
tromp on it while he is underneath?

HEH HEH HEH

My Lightning lunged foward even on a warm summer day. That just means they are ready to go race.
