What kind of problems with #6 pulley and chip?
What kind of problems with #6 pulley and chip?
I have a 2001 L with 13,700 miles on it still under warranty so it will be a while until I do this but what kind of HP/TQ will I be looking at ,will the stock trans. handle it, and how dependable will it be overall. I'm new to the HP Domestic world I had a 10-11 psi Miata that would run 8.72@80mph 1/8th and 13.6 @ 100mph 1/4. There is alot of good info here I just need some advice. Mods done:
Magnaflow exhaust
K&N drop in filter
Not sure on the crank pulley boost gauge shows 8psi form the start and about 3500rpm goes to 10+ and holds there.
Thanks for the help,
Jeff

I'd imagine the main problems would include: loss of traction, rear tire wear, speeding tickets, traveling sideways, people pointing and staring at you and saying things under their breath like "thats that lucky SOB...I hate em' ".
Actually I'm all ears on this one because I'll prolly go this route too.

See my sig.(5 lb pulley, etc.) for my mods. Now have 42,800 miles on my daily driver, 1/4 mile racer with no problems. Use a synthetic oil, warm it up properly, and get a chip with a good tune and you should be fine.
Btw, glad to have another Southener on the BB

LIGHTNINROD are you the one I see running at Renolds alot? I have taken my Miata up there several times the last time was in Jan '02 it was white with a hard top(Jackson Racing on the windshield) and we raced once you got me at the 3/4 mark down the track. If not we need to get together sometime and you can give me some pointers.

. I was prolly spinnin off the line.....glad I caught ya
.Yea, come over and introduce yourself. Sometimes we will have 5 or 6 Ls there at SDR. It reopens this Sat. but I think it's going to be too cold for traction???
Dan
That sounds cool. I'll look for you at the track. If it was you you were running on M/T slicks and you raced a red one the same day ring a bell. How old are you because the guy that was driving was a older gentleman and cool as crap.I do not remember a Confederate flag but I could not see past that hugh M112 blower.

Nothing wrong with running 6lbs of pulley and a chip as long as your keep it rich enough, have the correct plugs, use a high octane gas and watch out in the cold weather.
(I take my 2 lb upper off and only run a 4lb lower in the winter)
Plenty of us run them 24/7 safely. My tranny is 100% stock and I race it all the time at the track with no problems. It doesn't effect the comfort one bit either.

Jeff: You're starting to remind me of Rusty
..... He's another young, whipper-snapper
. J/K! If you get to meet Rusty(he lives in Lyons, near Vidalia), you'll see what I mean. It 'urinates' him off when I get a better reaction time than he gets.
Yea, I'm a gray(silver?)-haired, Southern gentleman that loves to hear my S/C'r suckin' copius quantities of Georgia air. (I've got too much time on my hands in this damncold weather--I should be out walkin' but it's too cold! )

I have a 6#, chip and Denso IT 22 plugs. I ran it once at the track and got a 1.84 60 foot tiome. 8.2 1/8th mile and 12.9@105mph 1/4mile. The truck only had 900 miles on it and I only ran twice at the track. Also had stock filter and air box.
I now have about 6000 miles and everything is fine. You just have to be aware of everything. Keep your ear open for the sounds of detonation, use good gas, good tune on the chip, take it easy in the cold weather (You may want a cold weather program)
Good luck.
PS, Warenty shmorenty.. who needs it
LOL

If you did a search you would find that the following have been problems with chips and pullies.
- additional supercharger wear
- aditional engine problems-rods, pistons, valves
- additional warranty problems
- additional traffic tickets
- additional transmission wear

LIGHTNINROD that was you then you were the first Lightning I saw at the track.I remember it like it was yesterday I heard this SC whine looked up and said what the heck is that the Cobra nope it's a Lightning. At that time you ran 13.90 to the Cobras 13.91 I must say it is your fault I had to buy a Lightning. And silver is the better color right?
As far is a whipper snapper I'm 33 I'm not sure that makes me one or not. What have you guys found is the best bang for the buck chip pulley combo? And I hear you guys say "with a good tune" are we talking about dyno time or what? This is all new to me the Miata had no chip option so fuel managemant units resistor tricks bigger injectors fuel rails fuel pumps or spend big money and get a piggy back ECU or stand alone to do the job.Sorry for all the questions it will take a little time for me to get into the grove
then I'll be of some good use to some of you guys on here. I had been up till last march working in the automotive speed and high performance sector for about 12 years and just called it quits in march to continue with my full time fire fighting job but the problem is it was all Imports and they are a little different. Other than the '91 Chevrolet Stepside I had this is my first real Hi Po domestic and I love it.Oh and whats up SpankDog or is it SVT Spank?LOL
