Is anyone else's L not want to stay running on these freezing morning start-ups

It's 9 out this moring, and it kept dieing off and on for quite a few times before it would stay running. Yesterday it stalled a couple of times, and one other cold morning.

This is not driving it, this is starting it up, ANYONE ELSE ???

I haven't had this happen - and it was -3 F on the handy digital readout this morning. On the way home yesterday, the truck was idling high - 1000 RPM's - when I would come to a stop. As I got home, it went away and I attribute that to the cold weather... hopefully.

My guess is that your chip isnt rich enough for in the start up mode or whatever you call it.

Maybe it's happy.

mine does fine even with 0 degrees F here. it idles for a couple of seconds over 1000 and quickly drops down to where it should be :)

Rob: I don't think it's the cold weather although 9* is colder than here in middle Ga. Your IAC valve is probably sticking due to being dirty/worn.

It comes off easy(2 bolts and one connector) and can be flushed with a solvent. Someone was able to get a small screwdriver in under the valve to lift it off its seat to clean it even better.

Mine won't start either. :(

Mine has 65,000 miles on the clock and 2 Colorado winters under it's belt and has never had trouble starting or running in the cold. I don't know what to tell you except from the sounds of it others are having the same problems.

I am visiting in Kansas City with my Harley and this morning was -8 degrees. Stalled 1st try and on the 2nd try the blower let out this awful scream for the 1st few seconds. Last time I bring this truck to the midwest....

Mine just sounds different when it is cranking. I attirbute that to the cold, but otherwise no problems. Just fear that it is gonna go boom when I hit the gas. LoL. -Mat-

Thanks everyone,
I just started it again now at 2:00pm to go to lunch (been sitting since 7:30 in the cold) and it was fine, it just seems to be the cold cold mornings, I know with the wind chill this morning it was way in the negative but I will check the IAC Lightnin Rod, as soon as I figure out which one is the IAC Valve :D

I hear you Richo on that God Awful Noise, it happen to me the other morning when it was 9 out and I was like WTF IS THAT, another cold morning noise, just what I need, between the tapping and wrapping, the screaming and wistling, and all the other strange noises on start-up, I'm starting to think like F-150 and wonder when it'll goes BOOM.

And You MR Fast Gator, WTF kind of life is this, drinking, sleeping, young beautiful girls, and no work.

MAN, YA GOT IT GOING ON BROTHER

BTW,
Good thought Andy, I didn't think of that one, Hmm ???

LIGHTNINROD Jan 23, 2003 02:41 PM

Rob: The IAC(Idle Air Control) is the bright-metal, tomato-can-shaped device on the rt. side of the intake adaptor. It'll be the easiest maintenance job you've ever performed.

Btw, all(?) EFI-type vehicles have an IAC and it get's carboned-up as it does its job.

Mine whistles too when the air temp is -5F or colder, right between 1400 and 1500 RPM. I figure its something like blowing across the top of a beer bottle, happens just at the right speed and air density. Dunno.

As for starting, it was -37C (-35F) here yesterday morning and no problems. It just idled at 1200 until the engine warmed up a bit. That's normal.
