? for those who tow boats

I know the L can handle the towing part, but how do they perform on the ramps? Sometimes I have to go pretty far into the water to get my boat off, can you guys get out pretty easy or do the tires have a tendency to spin ? How about steep ramps and wet ramps? Just curious if I should even attempt it, or if it would be a complete disaster.

well here is my experience

So far i have towed two different boats and put in on a few different ramps, so far i have put in my dads 18ft hewes light tackle this boat isnt very heavy and ih ave put it in on some pretty steep ramps and had to back down pretty far. I never had a problem with wheel spin or getting it out. The other boat i have put in is a 20 ft Air Nautique.(ski boat) i put this boat in the river where the ramps are really steep and this boat was pretty heavy, the L never had a problem pulling it out or putting it in. The only trouble you might have is if you try to tow a boat in soft sand be careful the L likes to dig in the sand and could get stuck easily. Hope this helps

When pulling your boat out of the water be easy on the gas and you won't have any problems. I tow a 18 FT Four Winns Open Bow Ski/Pleasure boat and haven't had any problems. Trust me your L has plenty of power, smoked my tires pulling my boat through the toll gate last summer.

I tow my 16ft Whaler (2k lbs total boat, engine, & trailer). I never had a problem at the ramp. Geting out with an empty trailer should be no problem. I have a long tounge on the trailer so I never have to "dip" my wheels. I always chock at least one front wheel and use the e brake. I release the e brake as just as I ease on the gas. Like Snakes said, easy on the gas and you should be fine. If you are putting in at a saltwater ramp, make sure you rinse your wheels and wheel wells.
Happy Boating!

I pull a 22' Crownline XLP with mine and have no problems. The truck doesn't even know its back there and the truck pulls the boat out of the water effortlessly. Hope this helps

If you have a chip be sure to have your tuner put a tow mode on it. With extra boost this can be a real problem. I had Sal program one of my positions on my four way for towing.

Hey thanks for all the help guys! That’s good news. I was fearing the worst, thinking I was going to have to go switch trucks every time I wanted to take the boat out, but from the way you guys are talking I might be able to pull it off.

Thanks

Just another example if you need it.

I launch a 22' Chrysler sailboat (around 3500 lbs.) on a very steep ramp that gets pretty slimy in the summer. I am gentle on the gas pulling it out and have never had any problem at all. I'm sure the limited slip is helping us a lot.

I had the same concerns you did, but you won't have any problem.

I have a 02 Harley and I towed a 25 Daytona to Lake Anna Va. The ramp there is kind of steep. Just ease into the throttle and you should have no problems

No problems on the ramps with my 18 ft aluminum fishing boat, other than later in the summer. Around my area, everything tends to get a thin layer of algae about halfway through the season. I spin the tires a little bit, but haven't got stuck.

i tow a 1000lb wave runner (including trailer) the waverunner is like 700-800lbs 3 seater with no problem but it's just a waverunner, i dip the wheels alittle bit and get out with no problem, the only thing is when you dip the wheels and your lower in the back like a 2' drop the bumper and part of tailgate touches the nasty lake water, but if you have a bigger boat just dont' panic and hit the gas hard right away like those other goof ***** and start smoking them up.

I have towed my Seadoo Jetski with my truck a few times. No problems so far. I have done it on sand once. Got out fine. I smoked an integra once while towing it too. -Mat-
