Question Stereo Questions.

Well the time has come to upgrade this poor excuse for a radio in my Lightning. So I have a few questions. I went to a local stereo shop and was told around $1300 for a good setup. Clarion head unit(Sirrius ready), MB quart front speakers, I have a set of polks to through in the back, 2 JL 10" subs in the back, a box for the subs, an amp for those subs in that box, and I also have a samll amp for the speakers up front. Is that a good price. On average what are you guys and gals paying for your "systems." I notice many of you have one. What kind of components are you all using and do you like them>??? Thanks in advance fellas. -Mat-

i would recommend just forgettng the rear speakers and going kickpanels, mids in doors, and subs behind the seat.

as for pricing you would have to post the model #s....(ie if you're getting a top of the line clarion and a zapco amp versus basement bargain clarion and a profile amp....)

Alpine CDA-7998 CD Receiver - $540
Q-Logic Q-Form Kickpanels - $200
MTX 6000 5 1/4" Components in kickpanels- $60
MTX 6000 8" Subs (Qt. 2) in doors - $30/each
MTX Thunderform behind seat- $80
Alpine Type R 10" Subs (Qt. 2) in Thunderform - $100/each
MTX 6500D Sub-Amp under passanger's seat - $120
MTX 4-Channel Amp under driver's seat- $120

Heard alot of good things about MB Quart and I'm thinking of upgrading the compnents to MB Quarts. I have seen good deals on

I would love to but I'm afraid I don't have the hook up anymore. My old roomates used to work at Circuit City and were able to order products directly from MTX. That's why my original system was mostly MTX. They no longer work there, so I no longer get a deal. Its sick how much they mark things up. My advice would be to talk w/ and independently owned stereo shop and see if they can give you a deal. Usually the don't budge on prices if you only buy a pair of subs, but often give good discounts if you buy a subs, amps, deck, etc. all together.

LOL

They are not bargain basement. The amp I was gonna use for the front speakers is though(profile). I had it laying around so I am gonna use it to save some cash or I may just buy one.....not sure yet. The sub amp was good quality as was the head unit I think the amp was a PPI(precision power). The head unit was model #DXZ725. I have since taken a liking to model #DXZ925. I am sure it is a lot more simply because now I like it. Thanks for the help. -Mat-

$1300 is pretty cheap.

Mine is:

Head Unit - $1000 -----Alpine
6 Disc - $300-------Alpine
4 Infinety Speakers - $400
Amp - $300-------MTX
Sub Box & Subs - $300--------MTX

so my whole system costs $2300 a 1000 more, but i also got the alpine mobile video screen. which woulda saved me like $500+ bucks. but my system does sound pretty good i think.

so far i've *gathered* a pioneer 7 inch screen w/ cd, av control unit, tv tuner, power invertor, and ps2. the former 3 all go together and are made by pioneer.

next up are the mids and highs (kickpanels and doors) and a 4ch amp.

you wont have to cut holes, just replace the regular speakers with 5x7 or 6x8 a good quality speaker, like the better Polks, infinety's, quarts, etc. and get a really good head unit. it will sound better, but for best results in our trucks you have to get subs, 8's or 10's will be ok, my system was so so, but when i got the subs, i could put no bass, and more treble up front so i could get real loud, while the back handles the bass.

You can also make an adaptor plate like I did to fit a 6 1/2 and tweeter.

I have a few, but it is work in progress. I have a new head unit I haven't put in yet and another JL amp will be added soon.

More pics here.
