Anyone else sit in the Tenn. traffic yesterday?

I was stuck about 75 miles west of Nashville on RT. 40... I sat in the same exact spot for eight hours. Luckily I had a rental car - Oldsmobile Alero... very good in the snow. Never in all my life had I seen so many cars, trucks, semi's littered all over the median and shoulders.... guess that's what happens when you don't put the salt down.

Where I was coming from, the roads weren't that bad. When I got on 40 East, the road was wet with some slush, and then it turned right to frozen slush/snow. This morning on the way to the airport, people were still traveling at 25 mph on wet roads... obviously still traumatized from yesterday.
wished i had a camera to take a picture of the snowman i made... I was quite bored.

I had some tires mounted and balanced at about 10:00 am. It wasn't snowing very hard at all. When I left the tire shop it took me an hour to drive 1/2 miles. I parked my truck and walked home. It took me 2 hours, but I didn't want to sit and have the chance that some idiot would wreck into me.
The major problem occured because every business in town closed at about 12:00 pm. This included the malls and schools and all. That means people have to leave work all at the same time and leave home to look for their kids.
What could you expect but a massive city wide traffic jam. That with the fact the city has probably 10 trucks it has outfitted with brine sprayers and 5 snow plows. 5-8 inches fell all within a few hours and that did everyone in.

Welcome to Nashville

I even closed my business for a couple days.

yep, in the exact same spot. there weren't even any good looking girls around
no food, no bathroom...
I did get to see three guys take there trucks through the median to go the other direction. the first guy spun out when he got to the west bound lanes, and we slid - yes, slid - his front end back in the correct direction. the second guy hit it too fast and actually flew over the west bound lanes and put his truck in the ditch on the other side... it was kinda funny to watch. the third guy had no issues.
it was kinda funny, but on the way there, i saw a pack of wild dogs in the median eating a dead deer... I was waiting for those same dogs to come out again and try attacking us
