Blow a plug 'cause of cold, when stock?

Hey, I remember reading your more likely to smoke a plug in really cold weather. Is that ONLY if you are modded? Penelope is stock enginewise, except for intake kit. She doesn't see much road time right now, but I had to drive her today...thankfully it was dry. I got to thinking, the temp said 16degrees. Isn't cold weather good for these things when they are stock? Or if I have to punch it, am I gonna lay waste to my block because it's so cold, or is that only with chip, and or pulley as well as aftermarket plugs?

I don't think(I don't know ) that the weather temps has anything to do with blowing a plug out of the head???

It can happen to any 5.4l eng. at any time. I believe that it's due to the plug being too loose from overtightening. Sound's like I'm 'crazy' making that statement but if the plug is overtightened, the soft, aluminum threads are weakened even more by the steel plug's threads. Then vibration, heat cycles, and boost works them loose and 'bingo', out she goes!

Never change plugs on a 'hot' eng. OK, you can pull one or two for a plug check but I wouldn't make a habit of it with aluminum heads/threads. Run the new plug in finger tight/snug and then just 1/16th of a turn more. My second set have been in for about 10k with no problems.

First off.......why did you change your screename.

Secondly.......if you have never checked your plugs hop to it bub. On the 01 heads there are only like 4 threads that "grip" between the head and the plug. It is not an issue of "do I have to worry with stock plugs" it's more like "do I have to worry about the stock torque spec".

They will work themselves out if not checked. Let me know if you need a hand doing them the next time your home from State

Scott,

If you wanna drive over my house I will change your plugs. Heated garages kick a$$ in the winter

Joe my good man...thats actually my nickname. Frgetit was my license plate, but it will be changing soon, so I 86'd it. A long time ago my friends and family started calling me Tinman, because they said I needed to get my azz down the yellow brick road to Oz and request a damn heart...but lil' 'ol me just keeps ignoring the man behind the curtain instead..

Thanx for the offer, I have never owned a car long enough to need a tune up or new plugs, or done serious enough mods to warrant better plugs.....so I have never changed/checked one, I would be lost. Plus I hear the ones on our rides are hellified hard.
