head swap/ head bolt question?
head swap/ head bolt question?
Plan on swapping my heads for a set that I am having ported.
When I go back and reassemble everything it would be nice to go with the ARP head studs but it looks like the engine needs to be out of the truck to use the studs. Unfortunatley ARP does not make head bolts just the studs. Has anyone swapped heads and completed the job going back with studs leaving the engine in the truck? It looks impossible to do.

I would think you have to have the engine out.
You may be able to place the head on and screw the front and midlle studs in. I don't know how you would get the rear ones in with the head on.

i think it is possible to do but a major pain in the you know what, and i think you are supposed to replace the head studs after they have been removed, i think thats what is says in the ford tech manual

CAUTION: Cylinder head bolts must be replaced with new bolts. They are tighten-to-yield designed and cannot be reused.
straight from the tech manual from the dissassembly section, i meant to type bolts but just forgot...sorry
