Does anyone know where I can get some detailed instructions on pulling the engine on my 01. I am going with a built short and heads and was curious if anyone has details along with any helpful tips.

You can try a search, there have been some pics posted. I know you must take most of the top part of the motor off and most of the accessarys off to get it out through the hood.

You have to remove the radiator, front accesories, Blower, and then release the two prop rods on the hood to open the hood another few inches. Then it will come out, it is still tight but if you go slow and steady it comes right out.

Also there are a bunch of little things on the bottom of the engine that have to come out, and you have to support the front of the trans once the motor is out.

here is what you have to make everything look like before it will come out.

 

i bought a ford tech manuel, found it on ebay, just make sure it includes lightning specs, full of useful info like howtos and torque specs.

 

Just lift the cab

you mean take the cab off the truck? that seams harder to me, of course ive never done that before...

BTW, I'd pull the cab

 

If you lower it 1" from stock and set it back 1" from stock, it'll make changing the plugs much easier. Plus, the weight distribution is improved.

 

How much work/what is involved in that?



My vote lift the cab if you can, I'd love to do that. Imagine how easy plug changes we be then

Nope he is talking about my truck.I relocated the motor while I had it apart the last time.It make the plugs easy to get to working around the blower easy just about everything easy to access.PITA to do had to make new frame mounts and some other little things.but it is a bolt in mod although it is on the extreme end.Weight went form 57%ft to 53%ft but also did the fuel cell to the back of the truck but it only HAD 8 gallons of fuel in it when I scaled it so not that big of a change for it.Stan

im curious what yall did with all the accessories ie power steering and a/c, did yall just unbolt them and leave them hanging ? or did yall drain them and remove them completely? big thing is, i dont have a hoist like that to lift the body

 

Did you shorten the drive shaft? Are you making a kit for this?
