I think my L used to have a chip!

I was reading some old posts about chips and decided to go out and look at mine. There does not seem to be anything covering the contact. I bough he truck in Dec, it is an 01 that at the time had 6200 miles on it. I cannot see any other visible mods. If there was a chip and it was removed should I be doing something or does the removal of the chip just set it back to normal. Thanks

did you try to scratch the contacts cuz the coating is clear. Once the chip is removed it setd everything back to normal.

Yes taking the chip out make the computer run the stock code.... The chip itself doesn't 'do' anything to the stock program it just tells he computer to run the code ON the chip instead.

btw what your looking for covering the contacts is a gel coating not a cover or anything. If its been removed you will notice a difference between the contact area and the rest of the computer board because its all covered with the 'gel' from the factory.

Hope this helps,
Johnie

I used the search to find out what the stock box looked like and mine does not have the factory cover on it. It must have had a chip before. thanks for the help.

If anyone has a pic of a Stock ECU before scratching the contact area off, that would really help. I forgot what it looks like. Maybe one of the 03 guys could snap some pics before adding their chip.. Hint..Hint .. Chris?
