Intake sensor Mod???
Intake sensor Mod???
Have you guys seen these intake sensor mods they are selling on ebay? I was wondering if anyone has tryed it, and if they have gotten any performance gains out of them? They look like a bunch of crap to me. They're selling them for a few bucks and claiming 10-20 HP out of them depending on the application.
Most likely its just a resistor inline for the IAT sensor... I used one on my '01 Cobra, it fools the ECU into thinking the air is cooler, so it richens things up a bit, bumps the timing curve, etc. Kind of silly to pay good money for a $.25 mod though...
I agree 2COOL, I've seen them for under a buck so do you think its worth it? I guess any performance gain out of it would be worth it. Did you notice any improvements with yours when you installed it?
You could do one better and go to Radio Shack and install an adjustable in-line 0-10K ohm potentiometer to achieve an even more controllable effect for less than $10. (This devise is nothing more than a stereo volume ***, but now you get the jist of how this inline mod works, they are typically somewhere between .80k -1.5k ohm resistors).
Lying to the computer baro/temp sensor is simply not a good way to go without the proper monitoring equipment to check timing and fuel curves. One size definitely does not fit all. The mod can allow for much more timing adavance than you want. It could be a lot more than a .25 mod. Maybe even a $3500 mod you got for cheap when you detonate the crap out of your truck and need a new short block!
This is infomercial voodoo tuning B.S.
Pay the extra, get a chip from a reputable tuner if you want more reputable / safe power.
Just my .02

I agree with the chip thing... preferably with a custom dyno-tuned program.
I used Autotap to check the results on my Cobra, and it definitely did change the fuel map and timing curve. I bought a couple packs of resistors, and ended up using one that showed the ECU a signal reporting ~30 degrees F lower than outside temps.
Then again, suddenly it was much more susceptible to gas quality changes, and would ping on hot days as well. So it isn't the best cheap mod out there... and lord only knows what havoc it would wreak on our force inducted trucks.
