Talking update on ticking noise

well i just got in the house from checking my plugs. 4 pulgs was loose and i mean real loose. i took everyones advice and it really paid off. thanks for all the help. ford needs to do something about this. i guess i will be checking them more often now. so everyone that don't know about this if you hear any kind of ticking noise check your plugs first. its worth the time. trust me.

Wow, good thing you caught it. It looks like ford has redesigned the heads according to a few people, mainly superfords, too bad we don't have the new design.

Thats excellent that you caught them in time.

When I put my Denso's in, 5K on the motor, one plug, 3rd one back on the pass side was loose. I felt great to catch that one, but 5K miles is bullchit

Good thing you caught it in time, or you would have been putting a set of Mod Max heads on

Wing nuts on the coil pack bolts would be a good start...
I backed mine up on the Rhino Ramps and the angle helped with getting at the drivers side rear two plugs...then again so did the dropped front end...1/4 inch driver , knuckles and extensions for the 7 mm nuts on the coils packs and some time..It gets easier and quicker each time it seems....

whats the torque spec on the spark plugs? How do you know they are tightened down safely and appropriate?

Run them down 'snug/finger-tight' and then 1/16th of a turn more. Mine have been in 10,000 miles or so like that.

Hi, I have the same ticking noise but it's not the plugs because I checked them. It only ticks at the speeds of 35-43mph. I tried different gas sations, but no help. I even pull a trailor and the ticking dose not get any louder while pulling up hill so I don't thinkit is desortion. I don't think it is the engine but i may be wrong. I did a test, I drove down the road at 40mph when the ticking is heard, shifted to Neutral and engine at idle, the ticking was still there. So here is my ? is it the engine, front end, or transmission? I took it to my dealer and they could not figure it out. Any help would be great.

Ryan
