Gen 1 Questions

I am looking at buying a Gen 1 Lightning. It is a 95 and I think I can get it for around 6,000. It appears to be clean and has around 65,000 miles on it. I have a Keith Craft 351W engine w/Novi 2000 that I would like to put in it. Does the Gen 1 have an E4OD tranny? Who would you recommend I contact to beef it up as I'm sure that is a week link? Could I easily put a 4R100 in it? Also, do you think the rear end would be strong enough stock?

Any help or coments will be appreciated.

Thanks

Gary

The trans on the gen 1's is an E4OD. The rear end will eventually let go and you will want to go with an aftermarket carrier, such as an air locker or similiar. If the keith craft lower end is built you will be ok. Stock lowers have a hard time handling more than 6psi boost due to the cheap pistons. The blower will become a piston popper, most commonly on #7 and #8 cylinders. I am sure greg evans can solve your trans problem.

cpeapea - Thanks I will check out NLOC.

svt4rd - It's a complete build with the Sportsman block and I'm told it will handle up to 1000 HP. It was specifically built to handle a Novi 2000. I was going to put it in my 91 Mustang but that is not too novel plus it is a lot more work and money.

I have a complete Aeromotive fuel system I can put in it that will handle the HP. So, I guess a built tranny and rear and some supension and I will have a nice little truck.

Do you know if the computer can be tuned with a Tweecer? Sorry for all the dumb questions but I know nothing about a Gen 1 L. I have an 02 L but I'm leaving it stock.

Thanks
