Valetine 1 is the only way to go. Had all the Escorts and Bells detectors. For nothing else, but the arrows letting you know which direction the bandit is in relationship to the fornt of the vhhicle.

I know a guy that has one of the Phantom ones and he says it works. I think his son is a police officer and they tested it and the laser gun could not get a reading. He's an L owner and I have seen it.

Read these tests. I believe they sum it up.

Once you get used to having the directional arrows and bogey counter, you'll never look back. V1 all the way!

When I went to Bristol last year for FFW Jim took us out to dinner in VA. I did a high speed fly-by on him and I had my radar detector mounted. Good Luck catching me.

BTW, you can program the V1 to help against the falses.

Go Valentine!!!
You cant beat the directional finder..Also , living in s.fla,I have disabled the x band since no cops here use it.Only place you may find a coper using an x band radar is in Hazzard County,or somewhere else w/ a police staff of 4-5. X band was responsible for most of the falses so it is much quieter, especially in the city.Your choices are the passport 8500 or the valentine. If your not sure, try both. They come w/ a 30day trial period.Send back the one you dont want.

I have the full K40 setup

I have the full K40 setup in my truck. It is all custom mounted in the dash and the control for it is in the sunglass compartment. It has saved my butt countless times. It is extremely expensive though. Its worth it around here though because cops are everywhere. there are pics in my gallery.

I've got kind of a crappy radar detector, but I recently made my own "upgrade:" First I cut up the aluminum trays from a whole bunch of TV dinners, into little 1/2" squares.

Than I made a little cloth "chute pack" and attached it to my tailgate, with a release lanyard that runs up into the cab, right over my left shoulder; then I packed the "chute pack" full of the cut up aluminum squares.

So now, when a cop surprises me and I think he may have radar aimed at me, I pull the lanyard and "Launch Chaff."

No speeding tickets yet! Several for littering, however

That is a good test of a couple detectors. If you wanna spend big bucks you can check out some of the ones remote display/antenna options such as the top of the line escorts. Interesting stuff...

Launch Chaff...

VERY NICE!!!! ROFLMAO

Pondered mounting a pop-up version of this. Darn permits keep hindering progress, or something.

Just as info on the subject of jamming Laser. A few years ago one of the the car magazines ran their yearly radar detector test/ laser detector test.. I think they did a jammer test also, but not sure..

They did find a way to jam Laser fairly well... They found running highbeam headlights cut the detection range down quite a bit...So then they mounted some flamethrower driving lights and They totally blinded the Laser gun,, along with all on comming traffic.. Then they fitted the driving lights with a IR filter to block the visible light and it worked nicely..

Hmmm lets see,,, Lightning with rollbar... 6 Hellas ontop.. Someone try it and post the results.. LOL
