intercooler level dropping on 99L

i bought this 99L in october with 3500 miles on it. checked the intercooler level today and it is about an 1" below low this morning. it was in between the marks a month ago. is this the tall tell sign it is starting to leak. the dealer i got it from has a 6 month warrenty that they will pay half of repair bill. or should i ask niceley and see if they can get ford to cover it. it has 4950 on it right now and is bone stock. it out of the 3-36000. and if ford wont cover it how much should the bill be since the are going to pay half. i feel like i should have saved my money for awhile and bought an 03. thanks

That's a leaker. Take it to a dealer and have them check to see if the recall has been done to it. If not the repair is a freebie. Ford did a recall on all 99-00 L's for that reason.

There was a recall for that problem. But I think it is too late now. You will need to replace it, talk with the dealership you bought it from.

I think the fix on the intercooler ended in September or October.

just talked to dealership on phone. have an appointment in an hour. service writer said they possibly could do an out of warrenty adjustment and i might have to pay 20% of bill. he said they would do the best they could to get it covered. i will let you guys no if ford comes threw on this one. i guess they will pressure check it.

The pressure test wont show anything because the thing leaks when its up to temp. At least thats what I understand .If they want to test it they should use Dye and then check the exhaust . The TSB # for the intercooler recall is 01b81
Good Luck

That sounds right. I got mine done on the last week. So 20% wont be too bad, under $100.

they told me $120.00 dollars. i got the parts on order. the said the total was $1200.00 ford paying 80% and dealer is covering 50% of remaining balance. i was hoping the dealer would pick up the remaind balance but i wasent ready to argue figured i was lucky to get what i am getting. might push the issue when its gets fixed being that i no the dealer didnt get hurt on how much i paid for it. the service writer said this is the last time ford will cover anything on it because they did the a/c commpressor 2 months ago out of warrenty and this will be my 2nd time to get something covered. i new i was buying used when i got it and i thought i was saving a little money buying used. i think new L is the only way to go now. i have seen them for 29,000 this time of the year and you get 3/36 warrenty. i paid right at 25,000 for mine with 3500 miles and no warrenty. extended thru dealership was about $ 2000.00 and i didnt buy it. i am going to run the poop out of it this summer and trade it in for a new 03 at end of next year or get an 04.

Don' t let it wait too long, It will leak down and screw up your bearings inside. That happed ed to a friend of mine on his 2000 and it was to late and ford put a new motor in for him under warrenty.

your probabley right mike. i will tell the wife she is on foot(yeah right ) and i got the explorer. hate to screw it up by getting collant in the engine. i have decided to park it. hope this ends any more problems i have with it. looks like i am on my own after this. still kicken myself for not waiting for an 03 model. i hated the honda civic we had so i dumped it to get the L. fun move but looks like it might cost me alot more in the long run. everthing else on the truck works great so i am going to cross my fingers and drive the crap out of it until i can get a new one. or mabey just mod the crap out of it and keep fixen it with upgrades?

Um, do a search, there is a post that specifies which relay to pull in the engine bay, then you can run it dry. It won't hurt the truck, you'll just lose a buncha power.
