I wonder if they (Ford) are going to phase the new heads in (use the old ones first). My passenger side head has a very small drip of oil on it. I don't want to take it in and have them put the old plug spitten heads on.

I just blew a plug out of my 2000 L . I am pi$$ed!!!! I am real tired of L failures. To date I have had three intercoolers put in, front end clunk fixed twice, pasenger side head replaced for oil leak and now the driver side head is comming off due to blown plug. My truck is 100 % stock because I have no confidence that this truck can hold together. I am just about ready to punt this thing and all the fleet Ford Trucks my company owns.
After reading this thread and finding out they only put 4 threads in those aluminum heads makes me see red! I am in the machine shop business and aluminum is about the easiest material in the world to thread. To think those morons put just 4 threads in that peanut butter material is a joke. It would take seconds per hole to put an addtional 4 threads in our heads. This is corner cutting gone mad!!!!!! I will be having a word with my Dealer in the morning and my new heads better have the 8 threads in them or Ford will be hearing from me directly. I am ready to unload on these guys!!

That does seem like alot of problems. I don't know how the lemon laws are in your local, but you may want to check it out. I have heard of people getting brand new vehicles utilizing the lemon laws.
Good Luck and please let us know what your dealer does.

I believe that 2L3Z-6049-BA is the correct number for one head and 2L3Z-6049-DA is the correct number for the other head. Actually if I'm not mistaken, they are both the same exact casting, only the cams are bolted on in the opposite directions.
Anyway, dealer cost on these things is around $550 per head. THIS DOES NOT MEAN THAT I CAN BUY THEM FOR THIS PRICE, AND IF I COULD I WOULDN'T BE SELLING THEM FOR THIS PRICE! so PLEASE don't e-mail me about this!
The parts manager would not be happy if I tried to order heads at cost for every member of the online community that wants a set. sorry
List price is upwards of $900 per head!
As far as I can tell, there IS NO NEW PART # for the new heads. The part number has not changed for '03! this is why you won't know which head you get until it arrives and you open the box
Fritz: if you take your truck to the dealership for the oil leak, they aren't going to replace your head at all, just the gasket.
later,
chris

superfords, thats a bummer i wanted the new head ..... oh well. At this point i
can't see any oil i can only smell it. I do have a question, do i get the gasket
replaced now, or do i wait until i see it driping from the head. I have a 6year/75k ESP plan so time & miles are not a problem .. what do you think ?

GreySVT03,
Do you know the production date of your truck? My L was built on the second day of production. I was told it was within the first 100 made. I am pretty sure I have the new heads. They are dated 11-29-02.
The reason I asked is I think it would be strange if they used the new heads on the first 100 made and then used some of the old heads. I believe my engine assembly date is 12-03-2002.

Yeah, I wanted to talk to you, I knew you had one of the early biulds. My truck was built on 12/09/03 (see sig). I think the date on teh engine is 11/26/02 I'm pretty sure it says 11/04/03 on the heads. It makes me sick to think I have an 03 and the old heads. I may take a plug out this weekend and double check.

Sheit...your production date is same as mine. It must be a pot luck thing. You can call SVT's 800 number and they can tell you the exact day it actually came off the line. They couldn't tell me an exact build number because it wasn't in the system yet. But they did say that they produced about 4 per hour on the first 2 days of production.
