I have on 03 on order, so it would be really reassuring to know if it will have the upgraded heads. It should be built sometime mid-jan, so hopefully by then all the old design heads will have been phased out.

Pics of plug hole in #1 cylinder. Can anyone tell me if it looks as if there are more threads than in the pre-2003 heads?

That's what I was thinking also. It was kind of tough getting the digital camera in there for a pic.

I have not seen a pic of the plug hole on the 2002 and earlier L's.
This may be one time when the fellows that waited to order their 03's will prove to be the lucky ones. I bet the new heads will start showing up on the ones built later in the year.

Yeah, doesn't look like more threads on that one to me. I wonder if what Ford was saying in Chris post was when folks change or check their plugs AND due to the difficultly some of them are to get at and feel is they are not getting properly seated (but are thought to be). When i do mine i get them in where i think they are SEATED and then i have a long socket with a short ext on it that i can use to back out the plug a hair and then i tighten again by hand carefully so i can FEEL it seat, then i tighten it. Sometimes i have done this a couple of times on hard to reach one's as i wasn't 100% sure i had a good seat. Bummer aint it! I hope the best for you new truck owner's, and can't wait for Chris to check his out.

Only 4 *****ing threads. What a stupid way to cut corners. Ford is now paying it in warranty claims. I really like the Lightning, but you would never see that on a Toyota or any german cars.

hey guys, it's after 10:00 pm and I just got home. sorry, but I didn't take a lunch today. After work I installed my new bedrug and then took the truck to the dyno. after that I had a mustang club meeting. so I never did get to pull that plug. I can't tell much by 03LightninRocks' pictures, but it doesn't look incouraging. If I remember correctly, his truck was built after mine. I will try to check in the morning.

later,
chris

fingers crossed

Rocks,

Your pix look like what the doctor shot during my colonscopy, but I've got even fewer threads
