Intake whistle?
I noticed this lately when it’s been pretty cold out, mid 20’s. It only last for about the first ½ mile or so. When I first creep away from a stop sign around 1700 rpm I get a whistle like it’s from the intake or something. Then when it shifts to 2nd it will do it again around 1700 rpm. After that it goes away, I’ve not noticed it when it warmer out upper 30’s, anyone experienced this?
Sometimes I get the same thing... I think I remember reading it's an idler or tensioner that's making the whine/whistle noise. Sounds goofy, like someone's under there doing a bird call, then it disappears at a certain RPM.
I just chalk it up to cold weather pains

sound
i had a wierd whistling sound i couldn't figure out for months, i found it by accident. My ventshade side visors were doing it. The one on the passenter side, the very back wasn't stuck on because there was a piece of backing on the tape still!!! I fixed it then it went away.
Then I notice another noise, mainly after letting off of 1/2 to wot bursts. Went away when i put the electric fan on, so it must have been the fan.
Then I noticed another whistle noise, definetely the s/b throttle body. Drove me nuts for about a week, now i kinda like it.
But , now i have yet, other whiste. Or maybe more of a squeeking this time. Starts when i start it in the morning. Maybe the idlers. I'll have to deal with it when the feet of snow melts. Yeah, it's snowing again, and will tomorrow, the next day , and maybe this weekend

The whistle I had went away after I put a new throttle body gasket on.
The noise I can't stand anymore is the wind noise from the windshield. I just don't want to drop it off at a dealer. I know there is a TSB on it (Windshield seal).

I’m still stock but it doesn’t sound like a belt whistle sound more like vacuum whistle. I’ve only noticed it when it’s cold out and for the first 5 min. it’s running. After it’s running for a little bit it quits. Also it’s around 1700rpm above that or below that it quits? Not really worried about it, just wondering if anyone experianced the same thing… Thanks guys

69stangscj,
I had the same thing - whistling at around 1500-1700 rpm and only when the engine was cold and much worse when the ambient temperature was cold (less than 30 F). I didn't have the time to track it down, so I reluctantly took my 02 F-150 with 4000 miles to the dealer. They thought it was an air control hose (TSB on it - hard plastic to soft rubber), a heater hose to the top right side of the engine that has a regulator in it and the alternator with a new pulley (Ford told them they have been having a problem with them). None of those things worked. Finally, I was able to locate the sound while the truck was sitting still and tracked it to the belt tensioner. They replaced it and I'm several days into no more whistle. They didn't tell me anything about them going bad and seizing, but I figure it was better to replace it and move on.
Hope this helps.
